Right now the biggest thing being stressed about the Steven Universe movie is that it’s not the end. Andy Swift of TV Line has made it clear that the creator is still looking forward and wanting to accomplish more episodes following the two-hour movie no matter what happens. There are a few complications that could come about as a lot of people might realize, but at this time the idea of looking towards that point doesn’t seem to be a big issue since people are still into the show and are excited for the movie. It’s likely that if those who know nothing about the show decide to see the movie that they’re going to be a bit lost, but the creator has also stated that they’ll be given something of a crash course in an attempt to fully understand what’s going on so that they can truly get into the story.
Taking a cue from Whitney Jefferson of BuzzFeed it would seem as though this movie was something along the lines of what fans might have expected even if it offered up a couple of moments that some folks found surprising. That seems as though it should be a constant that’s taken with a big grain of salt with this show considering that quite a few things have happened over the course of the show. But given that Steven Universe is a rather interesting and out there kind of program it’s easy to see how anyone watching the show or the movie for the first time might end up with a very confused look on their face. The fact is that like with many shows Steven Universe does have a lot of moving parts to it that depend on each other and their central linchpins to really keep things moving in a direction that people can fully appreciate and understand. Those that are just coming to the show might not have the patience or the ability to really grasp the intricacies that the movie might be wanting to convey. Even the fans seem to have their own criticisms however so thinking that the show is perfect for fans and not for anyone else is a fallacy that’s very easy to make.
But the idea of the movie not being the end should be something that’s common knowledge since the movie would be able to open up new venues and create new ideas that can be used as the show continues along and also continues to grow and expand. Now that we’ve seen a sixteen-year old Steven there should be a lot of different ideas that should be coming around and it’s fair to say that things should be allowed to evolve. That’s what keeps any show worth its animation going after all is the dedication to exploring new story lines and ideas that can help the characters, the setting, and pretty much everything evolve in a manner that’s seen to change things around from time to time and introduce new material and old material in new ways. There’s no doubt that one day Steven Universe will end since everything has an ending at some point, but for now the movie is just another chapter in the ongoing saga that was started up years before.
Being able to play around with a show like this is great since it offers up the chance to explore the different venues and character roles that have been created and therefore allows said characters to develop in a realistic way that might experience time jumps now and again but will still be very interesting, not to mention eye-opening. This show has thus far been one of those that has faced its own share of criticism and has still pushed through but has also received a lot of love from fans and those that enjoy the messages that are placed within the various episodes. Steven Universe is, from a distance, a rather odd cartoon that might have a few very strong and capable points, but once one digs into it a big they tend to see that it does have much more to offer and is capable of enchanting just about anyone that decides to stick with it. With that being said though it’s kind of a wonder as to who many fans will stick around now that the movie is out and how many will continue to embrace since movies do tend to change things when it comes to fans. This time doesn’t seem like it will be all that dramatic but it can happen.
Overall the movie is being seen as a boost to the show and will no doubt be worked into the continuity of it all in an attempt to build upon the story and make it even more entertaining for the fans.
