Stephen Colbert is absolutely tearing up the ratings on late night television. It’s now been 7 straight weeks that he’s been on top with his Late Show. Apparently the ratings are so scary to Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show that they’ve explored changing up the format of their show to be more political in order to keep up with Colbert. Despite the ratings surge there’s one group of people that aren’t 100% happy with the direction The Late Show has gone in: Catholics. According to Crux Now
Stephen Colbert is probably the most prominent Catholic on network television. He has often spoken openly about his faith, and even once appeared on stage with Cardinal Timothy Dolan to speak about their spiritual lives. But is Colbert losing some of his Catholic fans because of life issues?
Let me just say that I’m not even going to attempt to dive into this issue to a religious extent. If you want to read the entire article I’ve linked to it above. What I want to talk about is the fact that Stephen Colbert is openly Catholic. I don’t get it. I just don’t. Someone as cerebral and more to the point liberal as Stephen Colbert doesn’t seem to fit into the Catholic make up. Does Colbert really believe that Christ was resurrected? Because that’s a belief held by Catholics. Does he really believe that a virgin got pregnant? Because that’s what Catholics believe.
I could go on and on here. Just Google Catholicism and “Easter” if you’d like. My point is that I find it strange that Colbert is a practicing Catholic. That’s all. Just an FYI, nothing AGAINST Catholics. Your religious beliefs are your right and if they lead you to a better life, I think that’s wonderful. I just think that Colbert doesn’t come off as Catholic in anyway. If anything I’d see him as agnostic.

This ‘article’ has ZERO evidence of SC losing his Catholic audience. Nada, nothing… Just empty musing about how SC could possibly believe in Christianity/Catholicism. And lastly, no, Christians don’t believe Jesus WILL be resurrected. They believe HE HAS been resurrected. This article is bigoted and offensive.
I agree….where is the evidence? This article tries to start a non existent story. I am Christian, Catholic… I am a Jew also…and I am ac Muslim also… Surprise! The old religious narrative is outdated! Please stop using religion as some thing else than personal need for spiritual fullfillment…perhaps more for others too…not cause for Intelectual argument because one or another person, does not fit in whatever religious profile you grew up believing in. Peoples minds are conditioned by their upbringing….there are evil crazy bad lost souls in every religion I studied…stop looking for conflict, and instead try to look for love…you say Love does not sell? How about consider thar you (the author) does not have the tools in place to understand the picture of Catholics in politics? It’s something we should be following as a Golden Almighty Standard? I don’t think so…. in fact our President himself seems to be a bit lost, regardless of his faith…. Without compromise, Compassion, and Love for one another, humanity has no future…Love thy Neighbor…isn’t that a good golden standard? I like Stephen Colbert and today went to a Catholic church… I think the man has integrity to put put stuff many people dream about but have no courage to talk about.
Hi Nat! Yes, a little background research with actual data would be nice. By the way, Catholics do not believe that “there will be a resurrection of Christ someday” as you say. They believe he already resurrected. Just Google “easter” and you will learn a bit about that little topic too. Cheers!
