There’s a lot going on in the world right now, but one thing that almost everyone is talking about is the Brexit, which is why Stephen Colbert took some time on The Late Show last night to address England’s big decision and not only how it’s affecting its citizens but everyone around the globe. Colbert admitted that he’s genuinely freaked out over the Brexit because it essentially proves that anything can happen. Even though so many people in England believed that the country would vote to stay, it ultimately didn’t, and that leaves Colbert wondering what the next big shake-up will be.
“It really kind of crushes my view of what can happen that is bad that we don’t think is going to happen,” he said. “Like, it’s just not supposed to happen. Jeb’s supposed to get the nomination.”
However, even though the Brexit showed that almost anything, no matter how potentially terrible it is, can happen, it’s not the possible future that makes England’s decision so scary. Instead, it’s the present, as countries around the world are seeing their economies take major hits following the Brexit, none more so than England itself, which has seen the pound drop to its lowest value since 1985.
“Right now, the most stable currency in the U.K. is the Cadbury Creme Egg,” Colbert joked.
