Star Wars: The Saga So Far: From Episode I to VII

The Star Wars saga from Episode 1 to 7 has so far been a wild ride that has encompassed the globe and sent us all on a journey that’s lasted for decades. The triumphs, the losses, the victories and defeats have been felt by every fan crew, and cast member that have had anything to do with the epic story that began in the mind of one man. When the idea first came to him George Lucas likely had no idea what it would spawn and how far it would really go, nor how much others would embrace it and gladly push forward new ideas and concepts that would only cause the Star Wars mythos to expand and continue to reach beyond the star systems it had already created.

There are many stories in the Star Wars universe as of now, be they canon or not, but there is one saga that has been ongoing that people have thought of each and every time the franchise has come to light. The Jedi and their endless war with the Sith have consumed much of the story of Star Wars, largely because many upon many people have come to believe in and absolutely love the idea of the Jedi and their outlook on life. Plus, the tale of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker and all it has brought forward is something that has laid a foundation for all other stories to be told. The training of Luke Skywalker was the next step towards the future of the franchise, and the path that has led towards the state of the franchise as it rests now.

As a child I can recall loving the story of Star Wars. I knew almost nothing about lightsabers, the Force, or anything else, but the story of a young man seeking to make his life make sense and find something that gave it meaning was compelling even in my younger years. The idea that there is something out there for anyone daring enough to go and find it is a thought that keeps me awake at nights, but also something that most people would agree is worth entertaining. Beyond that the epic fight between good and evil was the only other main draw that kept me coming back. It was only when I grew older that I had to realize that there are heroes on either side of a conflict.

The Empire believed they were doing right by bringing order and stability to the galaxy, while the Rebellion believed themselves in the right by freeing the innocent and protecting others from slavery, tyranny, and the machinations of an emperor that did not care for their well-being. In the main series this was never fully explored, as the Empire was simply wrong and the Rebellion was attempting to do something worthwhile. In Rogue One, a movie that is still hotly debated, it was shown that while they are interested in making the galaxy a safe place for all, the rebels are still willing to do the dirty work in order that their own machinations are done.

There are both heroes and villains on both sides in this epic saga, but it’s not always easy to figure out just who fit into which role.
