One thing that you can always count on with Simon Pegg is that he’s going to tell you what he thinks about Star Trek. That continues to be the case after the release of Star Trek Beyond, the latest film in the “Kelvin” Timeline of the franchise in which Pegg stars and also wrote.
Speaking with Engage: The Official Star Trek Podcast, Pegg talked about how the movies are fun, but he feels the true home of the series is on television.
“Star Trek‘s home is television. The movies have always been a kind of celebration of that…but I think the true home of Star Trek really is TV”
While on the podcast, Pegg was also asked for his thoughts on Bryan Fuller’s upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery, and he admits that he’s very excited to see what Fuller does with the series. He also added that bringing Star Trek: Discovery to a streaming service (it will be airing on CBS All-Access) is a solid move, and he’s looking forward to finding out what direction the new series will take.
After what Fuller has done with his previous work, I have to say that I agree, Simon. Based on his recent comments, CBS’ Les Moonves is leaning the same way.
Star Trek: Discovery premieres on CBS in January 2017 before moving to CBS All-Access for the remainder of the first season. Outside of North America, Discovery will stream on Netflix. Star Trek Beyond is currently playing in theaters. Check out a first look at the USS Discovery here, and you can also see Fuller’s comments about the series’ timeline placement here.
