Scorpion Review: The Team deals with bad blood as they try to save a girl’s life

Scorpion

A little girl’s life hangs in the balance as Team Scorpion deal with some bad blood (no pun intended) in this week’s episode of Scorpion. The Los Angeles blood supply has been tainted by the deadly Nibori virus and the culprit has mixed up the barcodes of the bags of healthy blood and diseased blood that’s used for research so that the blood is rendered unusable. Remember when I raised the question as to how one can hack into a blood bank? The answer is by piggybacking on a software update and change the numbers of the barcodes on each bag of blood. Bloody hell indeed.

I loved the interaction between Walter and Olivia, the little girl who’s going to have a heart transplant. The genius was soft spoken and encouraged the girl to keep up with her studies. I think that Walter sees a bit of himself in Olivia much like how Agent Krumitz saw a bit of himself in Jake. Makes me wonder if these two shows are in cahoots with each other when coming up with a storyline for their respective episodes.

The scene where Sylvester, Happy, and Toby took part in some friendly competition called Scorpion Olympics while Paige and Ralph served as commentator and referee respectively put a smile on my face. I love these brief moments in each episode where the team can loosen up and have fun while working. Plus, seeing Walter being goaded by Toby to try and throw a beanbag at a target was nothing short of hilarious (and a tad ironic).

My grin grew wider as Happy succeeded in hitting the target with her beanbag. Walter O’Brien just got beaten by a girl, that is one for the history books. I’m sure that Megan is laughing her head off watching down on her brother, loving husband and their tight-knit surrogate family.

When a photographic image imprinted on a small sheet of metal in an old shed can be developed like any normal photograph, I was both shocked and amazed. Will wonders never cease on this show? I was equally amazed that Toby was able to profile Todd Wilcox so quickly and with some help from Sylvester, the rest of Team Scorpion were able to figure out the magic number that Wilcox used to change the barcodes on the blood bags: the amount of money that the bank used to foreclose his home and turned his life upside down.

Speaking of Todd Wilcox, it was clear that he wanted to be viewed as a national hero when he said that he has the cure for the virus, but the reality of it is is that it’s a business tactic in which pharmaceutical companies that are in the red boom in profit when they use widespread panic to meet demands and put them back in the black. Playing on people’s vulnerability like that is just wrong. So very wrong. Good thing Team Scorpion was able to get good blood to Dr. Bennett in time to save Olivia from dying during surgery. That part where Walter snuck onto the blood delivery truck by climbing on a rickety ladder stretched out between the RV and the truck was nerve-wracking. One wrong move and the ladder would fall off, taking Walter with it. I breathed a sigh of relief when Walter made it across in one piece.

In the end, Walter kept his promise to Olivia and saved her with the blood that was taken from the truck. When the little girl made it through the night, she thanked the genius for saving her to which the latter said it was Dr. Bennett. Walter then told Olivia to keep up with her studies once she’s healed, but Olivia wants to have some fun and take her new heart for a test drive. There ain’t nothing wrong with that. Even Walter took a break from his research to take part in Scorpion Olympics with the rest of the team. We all know what they say about all work and no play right?
