Richard Gadd, the creator of Baby Reindeer, has set his sights on new horizons with a forthcoming drama series. This time, the Fife-born talent is moving from Netflix to HBO. The American television network is in collaboration with BBC to co-produce the new series titled Lions.
Overview of Lions
Lions will span nearly four decades, from the 1980s to the present, exploring the intricate relationship between two brothers from their teenage years to adulthood. Richard Gadd will write and executive produce the six-part drama series, each episode lasting around 45 minutes. Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck are attached to direct, ensuring a compelling portrayal of this tumultuous relationship.
Lions Production Details
The production is scheduled to begin in early 2025 right in the heart of Glasgow. Besides Brodski and Reybrouck directing, notable figures such as Tally Garner and Morven Reid will serve as executive producers for Mam Tor Productions. The move to HBO comes after Gadd’s previous success with Baby Reindeer on Netflix. Released on April 11, it became one of the streamer’s most-watched shows. Based on Gadd’s autobiographical one-man show, the series follows aspiring stand-up comedian Donny Dunn (Richard Gadd) who faces a growing obsession from Martha (Jessica Gunning). The narrative dives deep into mental health and personal boundaries, creating an unflinching depiction that resonated with audiences.

The show’s success hasn’t been without its controversies. Fiona Harvey, claiming to be the inspiration behind ‘Martha,’ is suing Netflix for defamation and negligence, seeking at least $170 million.
