Ranking the Top Five “The Simpsons” Thanksgiving Episodes

The Simpsons is one of the best-loved animated sitcoms of all time. Adults and children alike adore the characters in this television series and find their antics and day-to-day life hilarious. Originally, ‘The Simpsons was a series of shorts shown on ‘The Tracey Ullman Show’ before making its debut as a show in its own right on December 17, 1989. The show covers many different events and situations throughout each season, including the holidays. Strangely, although there are many episodes devoted to Halloween and Christmas, The Thanksgiving celebrations are rarely mentioned. In fact, there is just one episode from all 29 seasons of this show that is completely devoted to this celebration. However, here are the five top episodes that mention Thanksgiving in The Simpsons.

1. Bart vs. Thanksgiving Season 2

Not only is this the best Thanksgiving episode from ‘The Simpsons’, it is also the only episode from any season that is entirely about Thanksgiving. In season 2 episode 7, the Simpson family gather around the table to share Thanksgiving dinner and celebrations. Lisa has created a centerpiece for the table and proudly positions it in pride of place. Bart accidentally ruins her creation and runs away after refusing to apologize. However, he is later reconciled with Lisa on the roof of the house.

2. Homer the Moe

In season 13 episode 3, Moe is trying to rekindle his love for running a bar and Homer helps him by starting a hunting club that serves alcohol. Moe makes Homer go turkey hunting and then R.E.M arrive to share a Thanksgiving dinner and Homer drinks and sings with them. One of the funniest parts of this particular episode is one of the members of R.E.M. trying to kill Homer.

3. Homer vs. Dignity

‘Homer vs. Dignity’ is the fifth episode of season 12 and in it, Homer becomes a prank monkey for Mr. Burns so he can pay off some debt. One of the best scenes in the movie is where Homer dresses up as a panda and dances in a zoo enclosure and the male panda tries to mate with him. The reason this episode classifies as a Thanksgiving episode is that it ends with a Thanksgiving parade.

4. Holidays of Future Passed

This episode begins at the end of the family’s Thanksgiving dinner and Homer is sat with the turkey carcass in front of him. They decide that Thanksgiving is now over and they should begin to prepare for Christmas which is the next holiday. The family begins by taking their Christmas family photograph to feature on the Christmas cards they will send. This is the ninth episode of season 23.

5. The Wettest Stories Ever Told

In episode 18 of season 17, the Simpsons and a ship captain are telling ocean-related stories. Lisa points out that the story of the Mayflower arriving in America is one of the most important of all time. The episode then becomes a re-enactment of what happened during that period of history and why Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.
