Pretty Little Liars: Has ‘A’ Gone Lethal?!!?

Pretty Little Liars - Blind Dates: Has 'A' Gone Lethal?!?!What the hell happened on my TV screen last night?

Pretty Little Liars came at the audience with one reveal that will have folks talking till next week, and possibly even longer than that. First, it was ‘confirmed’ by Wren that Ian was alive and limping through the woods around Rosewood, living off the meds provided by Melissa and a slightly reluctant Wren through his job as a doctor. Why was Wren helping out his ex and her husband? Well apparently, he was feeling guilty about Melissa running back to Ian. Even if a specialist was brought in to break down to me how that excuse makes sense, I would still cry B.S. when the lecture was done.

Then after getting verification on Ian’s whereabouts, PLL yanked the rug from under us by revealing that Ian is dead, effectively taking the guy off my suspects list and unleashing a crap load of new questions in the process that I’m dying to be answered. But first, let’s tackle the individual stories of the night.

Emily

I knew ‘A’ wouldn’t wait to back Emily further into a corner with her lie about the Danby scholarship. However, I don’t understand why ‘A’ claimed to “need” Emily to stay put, but further pushes Em into being caught in her lie? If caught, the news would really give Emily’s parents the incentive to pack up their daughter and leave town. Yes, ‘A’ likes to push people to their brink, but I’m going to need for him/her to factor in other variables (like Samara) while plotting their next scheme before they push the wrong button and come out looking like an idiot. Luckily, Samara knows how to think on her feet and if not for her (plausible) lie to throw off Mrs. Fields, Emily would’ve been Texas bound by the end of the week. Plus, is it me or does Samara seem just right for Emily at this point? I think she’s a keeper.

Hanna

I might be the only person who did not dig Hanna’s storyline this week, because it seemed as if the whole arc was just set-up fluff to lead us to the break-in at the therapist’s office, which I will get to in more detail later. Also Hanna’s whole exchange with ‘Alison’ was a bit… off, if you ask me. Despite Hanna’s anger towards Alison being pretty much founded and not something entirely new, it still seemed sort of left field-ish to me. I could see how Hanna went from being tight-lipped to the therapist to wanting to pour her heart out when it came to Alison dictating her life, only if there were signs of it earlier in this episode. However, I’m still wondering what the Caleb drama and helping Lucas out with his date had to do with Hanna wanting to tackle underlying feelings towards her deceased friend, besides the kind words Lucas bestowed to her. Again I think this certain side plot of the night was extra padding to get the viewers to the office break in, a resulting incident which made up for its build up in abundance.

Aria

Aria’s brother Mike (insert your eye roll here) reared his annoying head again on last night’s episode and frankly, he wasn’tPretty Little Liars - Blind Date: Has 'A' Gone Lethal?!? missed at all. Not only has he resorted to lying and disappearing at odd times of the day, but now the brat is trying to blackmail Aria into keeping his secret, which in my opinion probably trumps Aria hanging out with her friends behind their parents back any day. Seriously, Mike’s little reign of terror would have lasted no longer than a second after I snatched that smug off his angst-ridden face.

However, the search for Michael initiated some flirting between Jason DiLaurentis and Aria that could possibly bloom into something else. Could Jason be this season’s Toby?

Spencer

Other than discovering Wren’s involvement with Melissa and Ian, Spencer predictably discovered that ‘A’ beat her to Melissa’s ring in the pawn shop. Now, let’s talk about the pawn shop’s shifty owner. He knew good and damn well who Melissa was when she walked in there and he sure as hell knew she didn’t drop off a measly ass horseshoe also. Either he knows who ‘A’ is or he’s just being a shady pawn shop owner (I’m leaning toward the former). Personally, I would have called his bluff and started dialing 911 with the quickness, but if he actually does know ‘A’ then someone might have gotten hurt as a consequence. Which brings me to my last few points…

Has ‘A’ Gotten Deadlier?

Between throwing Ian off the bell tower and later seeing Ian’s dead body in the shed, I would have to say that ‘A’ has officially become someone not to toy around with and this game just got even deadlier. Although it seems that ‘A’ shot and killed Ian, I have a Pretty Little Liars - Blind Date: Has 'A' Gone Lethal?!?!feeling that Ian was dead way before his body was discovered. He seemed as if he had been dead for a while and there wasn’t a blood splatter on the wall behind him (but ABC Family might have asked to not get to graphic for censors sake) or blood on the floor to insinuate he was capped there in the shed. Or it seemed as if there wasn’t any blood from what we saw so far, but whatever.

One other aspect of Ian’s death that is nagging me is whether or not Melissa actually spoke to Ian at all. All those secret phone calls could have been to Wren to help build up supplies for ‘Ian,’ who I bet was just only texting her instructions and never actually made a direct phone call to her. This could attribute to Melissa’s frenzied, scattered state cause she really didn’t know who she was talking to at the time. She didn’t have confirmation that she was sharing info with Ian. If that’s the case, then this further proves that Ian has been dead since the season started and was only positioned to look as if he took his own life to cover someone else’s tracks, or this was revenge for the death of Alison, which I am not completely sure Ian had a part in.

Now let’s look at the other creeptastic moment of the night, which was the trashing of the therapist’s office.

The message left on the therapist’s wall was more menacing than usual for ‘A’ and even sent chills down my spine when I read it. “Nosy Girls Die?” Looks like someone had some serious pent-up anger issues, which doesn’t bode well for The Liars or anyone else for that matter. The way the room was trashed was as if the culprit had a personal vendetta out on the therapist for interfering with the Liars’ lives. Nothing was taken from the office it seems, but the chilling fact that ‘A’ was in the office building (and possibly in the room) during Hanna’s therapy session only goes to show that limits are becoming even more nonexistent with this person. I could go on and on about this, but I will save my ramblings for another time. Now, let’s go to some Random Thoughts.

Random Thoughts

– Could Hanna’s one on one with ‘Alison’ set ‘A’ off to the point that they destroyed the room? That could explain the personalized nature of the destruction done to the office, in my opinion.

– Just where has Mike Montgomery been hiding? I have one suggestion. He’s the mysterious figure hiding out at Jason DiLaurentis’s place. Think about it. Jason plays ball at the same court and mentioned being just like Mike when he was his age. This is just an assumption, because who else could be in that upper room since Ian is now cold as marble slab ice cream?

– Wonder if the therapist will try to tap into each Liar’s relationship with Alison? It would make sense to see what Alison really meant to these girls, which in turn could possibly reveal even more secrets the Liars have kept close to their chests.

– Wonder if the discovery of Ian’s body will make the girls look less innocent in the eyes of the townspeople. HA! Not in this society. They might pin Ian’s death on the Liars, because there always must be a scapegoat. It’s a sick society, I know.

The mystery just got creepier and the Liars might want to invest in packing heat and a couple of cans of mace at all times from here forward.

Well, I’m all tapped out at the moment. Looking forward to hear your theories on this week’s Pretty Little Liars. Also, please refrain from spoiling book plot lines in the comments section? Some of us have not read them yet…
