Perez Hilton, one of Hollywood’s most notorious celebrity gossip bloggers, has been facing a profound personal crisis since August 4, when he engaged in acts of self-mutilation at his Florida residence.
He has since remained in a healthcare facility under the state’s Baker Act, a law that allows medical professionals to hold patients for psychiatric evaluation without their consent.
New details about his recovery have now emerged, pointing to the possibility of lasting physical damage as he continues to deal with the aftermath.
The update aligns with Hilton’s sister Barbara’s previous interview, in which she said his injuries were so severe that she had to place towels over him to stop him from bleeding out.

Perez Hilton’s recovery update suggests he may be facing permanent disfigurement

Several sources spoke to the Daily Mail on Tuesday, August 18, about Hilton’s mental and physical recovery.
Regarding the former, an individual who identified themselves as a friend of the blogger said, “He doesn’t have a lot of presence of mind. He’s not able to fully process what happened.”

When asked how long doctors believe it could take Hilton to return to normal, they said, “This is not going to be something where in five days, I’m like, ‘He’s fine.’”
“This is months, maybe years.”
Hilton’s sister echoed that assessment, suggesting that his recovery is likely to be a “long” process.

Meanwhile, speaking about his physical progress, a source said Hilton is “going to be okay,” but revealed that his injuries required “extensive stitching” and are likely to leave him with “lots” of scarring.
Hilton, according to those close to him, has also turned to his faith for strength during this difficult time.
“He has a Bible with him, and he’s really reading it. Praying,” one explained.
“He’s really committed to it.”
Hilton received treatment for excessive illicit substance use before being transported to the hospital

Officers from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Department administered crucial first aid to Hilton after he was found with multiple knife-inflicted lacerations.
They also treated him for an o**rdose.
Only after they determined that he was somewhat stable did they transport him to a local hospital.

Both livestream viewers and Hilton’s sister, who was present at his apartment alongside his three kids—Mayte, 8, Mia, 11, and Mario, 13—called the cops.
While the former group had a clear picture of what Hilton was doing to himself, Barbara became concerned after her brother locked his bedroom door.
After breaking in, she said she found him standing in the shower.

“Mario [real name] was standing in front of the shower, n**ed, cut up, covered in blood, with a box cutter in his hand.
“I didn’t recognize him when I looked at him. I saw it in his eyes. They didn’t look the same,” she said.
The first thing Barbara did after becoming aware of Hilton’s condition was to run out of the house with the kids.
She dropped them off at a friend’s house before returning to tend to him.
Hilton’s mother will continue to care for his children amid his ongoing struggles

Court documents obtained by TMZ on August 20 confirmed that Teresita Lavandeira has been granted temporary legal custody of the three children Hilton welcomed via surrogacy.
Per the order, she now has authority over the kids’ medical care, school enrollment and other decisions necessary for their well-being.
Hilton was noted to have consented to the arrangement and to the conditions established for his meetings with the kids.

A judge required the internet personality and his children to have contact only after he has obtained psychiatric clearance.
The meetings are also required to take place under the supervision of a family member or a therapist.
Other details of the custody case remain sealed, with the judge finding that confidentiality is crucial to protecting the children.
2026 has not been a good year for Perez Hilton, with him experiencing several health scares

Hilton’s recent hospitalization came after he spent 21 days recovering from sepsis in March.
Speaking with Fox News about the experience, Hilton admitted that he feared he would not survive the scare.
“I thought I was gonna d**,” he said.
Hilton said his body began shutting down while he was under observation from doctors and that “everything that could go wrong went wrong.”
He said he developed fluid in his lungs, experienced heart issues and underwent two surgeries.
Just weeks later, he faced another health challenge when doctors discovered a deep vein thrombosis, commonly known as a blood clot, in one of his legs.
He later told his followers that he was grateful the clot was found before it reached his heart or lungs.
“Sounds like psychosis,” a netizen said about Hilton’s act
