Today I was scrolling around the forums and comment sections of movie sites I enjoy. I came across this little gem on Reddit and I honestly couldn’t agree more. It was focused on the subject of the movie Waterworld deserving a remake. Here’s what the person said:
I watched this movie couple of days ago , and I must admit there is something about 90’s movies . During that time makers kept things simple , focusing on screenplay but if it is made today , it’s all about CGI. I really think a remake of this film like Mad Max:Fury Road could be interesting. Casting in Waterworld could have been better and some action sequences are over and out , but it is entertaining. Also deeply impressed by Dennis Hopper in the movie . How often in action movies we see such good performances by the villain. Also ,please suggest any movie recommendations like this .
Other than the broken English this guy makes a good point. Think about Waterworld. Other than all the piss drinking stuff, the movie was “fine.” Was it great? No. It just had a massive budget and in the 90s it was tough to make the money back. In today’s movie day? I think with the right marketing, trailers, etc etc, this movie is a smash hit today. Plus with all the new tech in movies, I think the Mad Max approach is spot on.
Get Tom Hardy to star in this movie with some wack job as the villain (Christopher Walken?) and you’ve got yourself a blockbuster on your hands.
