Nashville Preview: The Country Diva Comes Home

Nashville

When last viewers saw country diva Juliette Barnes, the songstress was checking herself into treatment for substance abuse and Postpartum Depression. It was a haunting storyline since it echoed portrayer Hayden Panetierre’s own struggle with Postpartum Depression. Both the character and the actress were given time off to heal. Tonight on Nashville Juliette, now sober and healthy, returns home to rebuild her life.

Prior to marrying Avery Barkley and giving birth to their daughter Cadence, Juliette didn’t have the best track record when it came to love and stability. Juliette believed that when she started a family she finally had balance in her life with the career and personal accomplishments she always wanted. Instead Juliette developed Postpartum Depression, which when left untreated, sent her into a downward spiral of isolation and drug addiction. It was only when her manager Jeff Fordham died trying to save her from a suicide attempt that Juliette realized she needed to seek help.

Since then the audience has only heard about Juliette’s progress. While in treatment Juliette has had limited contact with her daughter given that she relinquished custody to her soon to be ex prior to entering treatment. Juliette’s fame has only grown in her absence from the limelight since no one but family knows that she has been in treatment. When Juliette comes home, she’ll immediately be faced with the prospect of continuing a rigorous work schedule or taking the time to rebuild her personal life.
