He’s not a comedian but Morgan Freeman does know how to interject comedy into his act now and again when it’s warranted. Usually his best funny moments however come in movies that are designed to be humorous. Otherwise the funny moments are relegated to a darker kind of humor that some people would separate from traditional comedy. But when he decides to have a good laugh it’s like watching a storm cloud lift and the sun shine since he’s the kind of actor that can give you the impression that underneath the serious mien that he has sometimes there’s a guy just waiting to smile.
He’s like the stern old grandpa that loves to laugh but won’t always show it.
5. Evan Almighty
How many people would really believe a person they just met when they claimed to be God? A lot of us would think that the old man needs to be taken to a rest home, but after so many weird occurrences you might actually want to take a step back and start listening rather than denying what your eyes have told you. People might call you a crackpot but somehow, in the movies, God always has a way of proving them wrong eventually.
4. Last Vegas
This is what happens when you give an old person Red Bull and alcohol in the same drink. If not for the Red Bull they might just fall asleep, but that kick of energy is enough to power just about anyone and it does so here. It’s almost like being soused with liquid electricity since if you don’t drink it that often the energy drink can rev your system up to such a degree for a short amount of time that it feels like you simply have to move.
3. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
There’s a lot of debate on just whether or not the character of Azeem would have this kind of gadget in his belongings due to the time period, but as a prop for the movie it makes for a great scene. Historical inaccuracies aside Freeman’s character in this movie is fairly practical and can’t understand the kind of things that the English see as normal, nor can he understand how they had any success in the Crusades.
2. The Dark Knight
There have been a lot of people that have tried to take down Batman in the past, but this one kind of takes the cake at the moment since it’s one of the most insidious but ill-advised moves ever. Trying to blackmail Bruce Wayne into paying you ten million a year just to keep your mouth shut about the secrets you think you know is one of the poorest attempts at becoming rich in the history of movies.
1. Bruce Almighty
Once again, how in the world would you react if someone told you that they were God? Disbelief would be normal, but after seeing the kind of things that Bruce and Evan have even the most jaded and anti-religious nuts would have to think twice.
Morgan Freeman is just awesome, ’nuff said.
