As much as a Thanksgiving episode would’ve been both appropriate and undoubtedly hilarious if Annette Castellano hosted, The Mindy Project finally addressed the overbearing mother-son relationship between Danny and his Ma.
Annette has a key to Danny’s apartment but it’s her inopportune timing that makes her barging in even more irritating to Mindy. By the end of the episode, she’s learned to at least knock on the bathroom door rather than go right in when Danny is bathing with Mindy. I have to wonder though if Annette’s obtrusive behavior will continue. Like I said, it’s progress that she knocks at least but she does still let herself into his apartment. People don’t change their personalities completely. Danny will always be his Ma’s favorite boy and she’ll always treat him as such.
Mindy’s solution to dealing with Annette is to set her up on a date. Coincidentally, Tamra just broke up with Morgan this same week. It wouldn’t be a comedy if this oddball couple didn’t get paired up, thanks to a dating site. They hit it off so much on their first date that Morgan starts dishing out fatherly advice to Danny before he even knows that he’s dating his mother. Of course Danny has the same reaction Pam had when Michael was dating her mother on The Office. He wants to shut this down right away, and fortunately they weren’t serious yet.
Tamra already regrets her decision to break up with Morgan when she hears he’s dating an older woman. She classicly mistakes Mindy as the older woman when she finds only the two of them left at the dinner table. I love that Tamra is getting more storylines this season, and she’s only just getting started. Now that Mindy and Morgan are her new enemies, this should make their office a lot more hostile. Maybe Tamra will get back with Ray-Ron to make Morgan jealous. I never really bought Tamra and Morgan as a serious couple, but I’m actually rooting for them in the long run.
Beverly is so criminally underused, yet she always makes the funniest comments. When Morgan announced to the office that he and Tamra are over, she calls him unprofessional while she’s sitting at the receptionist desk husking corn on the cob. Haha!!
What was your favorite part of the episode? Morgan and Peter’s bonding in their shared office, or the mention that Morgan did the ice bucket challenge with hot water? I crack up almost every time Morgan is on the screen, so the more he’s featured, the more I love The Mindy Project!
