In a way this show almost sounds like it took the idea of the film The Bone Collector and decided to give it a different spin. Instinct is all about a CIA paramilitary officer that’s lured into the hunt for a serial killer that’s been using the officer’s book as inspiration for his murders. That kind of premise is actually kind of interesting since it seems to indicate that the level of realism could be much greater than a lot of other ideas, but it’s a lot more disturbing because of that as well. However it seems that the show is definitely going to lean on the more reliable ideas of over-analyzing and playing up the danger level as much as possible in order to make it seem as though such a thing could never possibly happen in the real world. That’s usually wise when trying to get people to watch rather than think that it might be possible.
Let’s take a look at the cast of the show.
Sharon Leal
Sharon has had quite a few regular roles over the course of her career and one of them was as Miss Martian in Supergirl, which she takes up now and again as it’s needed. Moving on to Instinct should be an easy transition since she’s played a variety of characters and has shown a great deal of talent in taking on new projects and running with them as he’s directed.
Naveen Andrews
Naveen is the kind of guy that’s been steadily making his way up the ranks to become a well-known and very well-respected actor that many people recognize yet still don’t know well enough to remember his name. He’s been in so many different shows and movies at this point that it’s very obvious how well he can adapt to any given situation he’s thrust into and knows just what’s needed for his part. At this time it seems as though he’s being mishandled and should be taking on bigger projects than he’s been given, but perhaps that’s a little further down the line.
Daniel Ings
Daniel has been steadiest when it comes to his TV career, as his film career has a lot of holes in it, meaning years and years that he didn’t do anything and wasn’t seen on the big screen at all. But it could be that working in TV is his niche and that’s where he likes to stick close so as to hold on to some of the roles that he’s developed over the years. One can only hope that he’s able to do so because he is something of a talent that people like to see.
Bojana Novakovic
So far every member of this cast is tried and proven and Bojana is no different. Her list of accomplishments isn’t as long a read as some but it’s still enough to see that she’s managed to create enough buzz surrounding her career that says she’s definitely worth the effort of taking on as a cast member. In fact it’s fair to say that she deserves a prominent role such as the one she’s been given in this show just to present herself as a stronger and more capable actress.
Alan Cumming
Alan is the kind of guy that looks like he could play the weasel-faced bad guy or that intelligent protagonist that you just can’t stand but is still an integral part of the show. He’s had some very interesting roles throughout his career and has managed to become one of the more well-known faces throughout Hollywood largely because he’s been in so many different movies and TV shows either as a main character or as a supporting actor. If you can recall, he was in Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion, Goldeneye, and even X-Men 2. He’s versatile in a way that makes him hard to predict sometimes but he’s also great at what he does so watching him work is easy since his acting is solid and makes you get into his character somehow.
The show itself almost comes off as a slight bit generic but there’s also a quality to it that seems to underlie the trailer, making a person think that there’s more to the story that’s being given at the outset and that it would be worth it to watch and find out just what it is. The cast of the show is solid and should have no problems meshing with one another as they work to create a quality program. As an idea for a story it’s pretty sound, but given that critics and audiences are sometimes extremely fickle it’s going to be necessary to hold judgment until it’s been decided just how the show is going to progress and if people are really going to take a liking to it down the road.
