Recently, Margot Robbie revealed that there was one more Harley Quinn spinoff that was being developed at the moment. It is important to note that this is neither Gotham City Sirens nor the Joker and Harley Quinn movie that have been mentioned in the news so far. Instead, this is something else, meaning that there are now not one, not two, but rather three Harley Quinn spinoffs being developed by Warner Bros. Something that should come as welcome news to those who were impressed by Robbie’s performance as the character in Suicide Squad.
What Harley Quinn Spinoffs Are Being Developed Now?
First and foremost, there is a Suicide Squad 2 that is expected to come out some time in 2019. This is not a Harley Quinn spinoff, but it is nonetheless expected to see Robbie as well as the rest of the cast make a return as their characters from its predecessor. Given that the DC line-up seems to be undergoing a fair amount of flux at the moment, it seems probable that the fan reception of Robbie in the movie will have an impact on the Harley Quinn movies that are being developed at the moment, which won’t be out until even later.
Second, one of the Harley Quinn spinoffs has been confirmed to be based on Gotham City Sirens, which was a comic book series that focused on not just Harley Quinn but also Catwoman and Poison Ivy as a team formed for the purpose of protecting one another’s interests. Overall, the comic book series was well-received by a fair number of fans, which explains why it has been chosen to serve as the source of inspiration for a Harley Quinn spinoff. For that matter, one can’t help but suspect some of the people behind the movie are also interested in seeing whether it could be used to launch further movies for both Catwoman and Poison Ivy, though movie executives might be a bit cautious about said prospect considering what happened to the last Catwoman movie.
Third, the other Harley Quinn spinoff that was confirmed was actually a spinoff featuring both Harley Quinn and the Joker, which was supposed to be a criminal love story between the two. Something that raised eyebrows from a number of people because of the domestic abuse overtones and undertones to their relationship from the comic books. Whatever the case, some people have confused this particular spinoff with other Joker movies that have been proposed, which is understandable when there have been so many ideas floated about.
Now, there is this spinoff, about which nothing more is known at the moment. It is interesting that Warner Bros. has so many Harley Quinn spinoffs under development at the same time, which suggests that it is moving forward with them because it is interested in seeing which of them have the most potential as movies. As a result, one should not expect all of them to make it onto the movie screen, but at the same time, it is worth noting that particular outcome is far from impossible depending how fans continue to respond to Robbie as Harley Quinn in the future.
