Madam Secretary: Smuggling Case Solved. Jay Gets Kidnapped.

Madam Secretary

Things start to get personal for Elizabeth McCord in tonight’s episode of Madam Secretary. While on a mission in Nice, France, a duo of goons grabbed Jay. The latter volunteers to go on this fact-finding mission to find out who’s the true culprit behind the weapons smuggling case. I thought that the kidnapping was arranged by Timur Soroka, the man that met with Jay in Nice. The kidnapper then turned out to be none other than Georgian arms dealer Dito Pirosmani.

Elizabeth had been sure that Dito is their guy, but even the Secretary of State can be wrong. Dito was not the one that they’re after, but the man got himself killed regardless. A group of Americans showed up at the hotel where Pirosmani is staying and ended his life. The CIA denied all involvement, but I think that there’s more to it than meets the eye. As for the actual culprit. Darryl Brennan is the one who had been smuggling American weapons. Guess people will do anything for money. Even go toward the dark side. It’s quite sad if you think about it, but then you understand why they did what they did.

Meanwhile, Jason thought it would be a good idea to impress Piper, a girl he likes, with a hot-air balloon ride. The youngest McCord lied to his parents and extorted money from his father. Said that he is using the money to buy a graphing calculator for math class. The truth then came out when Henry ran into his son’s math teacher at the book fair. What is it with guys trying to compete against each other just to impress a girl? On second thought, I take that back, this sort of thing happens in nature all the time. I’ll just go back to my little corner now.

It’s also interesting to see Henry play the whole “good cop, bad cop” thing with Jason. Usually, it’s Elizabeth who handles stuff like this. She would be the bad cop and Henry would be the good cop. At least things worked out for Jason at the end. He talked to Piper and sorted everything out. Young love, am I right?

Circling back to Jay, I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding as the rescue team got him. During the scene where Pirosmani talked with Elizabeth, part of me thought that the arms dealer was going to kill Jay after he hung up. I hoped that he would take Abby up on her offer to go inside the apartment, but alas, duty calls. Nevertheless, it’s nice to have you back with us, Jay!

Henry also confirms his theory that the religious cult is planning an attack in Jerusalem toward the end of the episode. Shame that a certain Devil and homicide detective can’t talk them out of it. Then again, they’re on different sides of the country.
