Team Legends head back to the Wild West again in tonight’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow. Jonah Hex makes an appearance as he teams up with the Legends to take down Quentin Turnbull. Ray and Nate bond over Ray’s wise words about bravery and of how powers don’t make the hero. Also, Nate gets himself an awesome superhero costume from Ray at the end of the episode. Hello, Citizen Steel!
The opening scene of the episode made me facepalm. A time pirate discovered a rare ore using a detecting device. In came Turnbull with intentions of killing said pirate. The guy tried to negotiate his way to freedom but ended up getting himself shot to death. You never negotiate with villains! They will always pull one over you once they get what they want! Have you learned nothing, people?!
Meanwhile, Professor Stein has been having visions of a woman that he doesn’t know. Could it be that the younger version of himself met another woman before Clarissa? If that’s the case, then why isn’t his wedding band gone? I think that it might have something to do with what happened in the Flashpoint universe. Thanks a lot, Barry Allen! Speaking of Barry, I still wonder when Professor Stein and Jefferson will tell the rest of the team about the message they heard from a future version of him.
It was also great to see Nate use his powers more in this episode. He first deflected bullets that the outlaws fired at him and then took a dwarf star bullet for Mick. I still can’t believe that he was able to stop the speeding train with his bare hands. Yes, congrats on stopping the train, but you’re still not Superman, Nate!
The interaction between Amaya and Mick was an interesting one. She relates with him on keeping the animalistic part of him under control, telling him using metaphors that he needs to control the flame that’s inside him. I’m not entirely sure where the writers are going with this, but they better have a good reason for it.
We then got to find out about Jonah Hex’s past and how he got the scars on his face. Though it was a bit difficult to understand what he was saying due to the prosthetics over the right side of his mouth. Turnbull had burned a church full of townspeople, women, and children down. Jonah barely escaped and vowed vengeance on Turnbull.
Sara understands his rage as she intends on killing Damien Darhk for the death of her sister, but she tells Hex that he has to follow her orders if he wants to succeed in getting Turnbull. Glad to see that he finally dished out the necessary justice to Turnbull toward the end of the hour.
On a side note, I liked Nate’s rough sketch of his Citizen Steel suit. Reminds me of how Peter Parker drew out his Spiderman suit in the first movie. I’m also looking forward to the crossover episode that will soon happen. This is going to be legen…wait for it…dary!
