Five Key and Peele Sketches That were Absolutely Brilliant

Key and Peele were golden from 2012 to 2015 when they split and went their separate ways. Their sketches were hilarious and most of the time were absolutely brilliant in how they were designed and executed. The sense of humor they brought to each sketch was times a little different than some folks were used to but in this era that has seen shows like The Office and Modern Family rise to prominence, Key and Peele was something that brought something unique to the audience in a way that made them assess what they were seeing before breaking out in hysterical laughter. Their humor went through a variety of changes from sketch to sketch but it was always a laugh riot when they were together, and while it was a bit crude and laced with profanity at times it was more adult-oriented so that’s fairly easy to explain. Their comedy could be very down to earth or completely off the wall, and it would seem that many people responded a lot more to the latter as it tends to leave viewers wondering over what they just watched and what might come next.

Here are just a few Key and Peele sketches that are considered to be some of the best.

5. Undercover Boss

You may or may not have seen the show Undercover Boss, but the gist of it is that the boss, manager, or CEO of a company alters their appearance and then gets hired on at the location they are in charge of to experience what goes on without anyone being the wiser. The actual show has been heavily criticized as being staged, but Key and Peele can’t help but take it to another level as one employee is quite verbal about the job in a very negative way. Once the big reveal is given however that employee switches his tune very quickly and attempts to get on the good side of everyone he’s abused in some way.

4. Cleared history

There is some freaky stuff on the internet and a lot of people have at least taken a glance, while some have become deeply invested in the strange goings on that can be found on multiple sites. One thing though: a computer’s browser history doesn’t just clear itself. What that means is that every time a browser history is cleared it gets rid of everything, not just the porn sites that a person might visit on a regular basis. It also deletes the shortcuts that might have been utilized to reach other, less provocative sites that are expected to be there when another person decides to use the computer. The sweating part of this sketch is pretty funny since it’s better than a full-on blush could ever be when it comes to ferreting out a lie.

3. Awkward conversation

Ever have that kind of conversation that some of the group gets but one person just doesn’t get? It kind of stalls the whole art of the conversation a lot of times since that one person can’t seem to follow along and can tend to get bored, angry, or might even try to contribute despite not having anything really constructive that they can add. Of course the latter option just makes it even more awkward as the individual and the group have to try and find a common ground that they can agree on, which rarely happens since if one person is feeling like the third wheel then a lot of people probably won’t make the effort to include them.

2. Laron can’t laugh

Not everyone laughs, but then acting like you’re having an involuntary spasm, especially when you’re not mentally or physically disabled in any way, looks pretty strange. This full body ‘laughter’ is weird enough that many people might agree that it’s really hard to just sit there and not laugh or wonder if the character is supposed to be disabled in some way. Really, the flopping around and throwing his body this way and that is something that a lot of people might have trouble accepting if it wasn’t meant to be a sketch.

1. Text confusion

Does anyone remember a time when phones were devices that were attached to the wall either by their housing or by a long cord that plugged into a socket? Or how about when cell phones weren’t used for much more than talking? It’s been a long time since cell phones were used for the express purpose that they were made for and nothing else, meaning that texting is now the more acceptable method of communication. The problem with that is that unless you know the mannerisms of who you’re talking to and can anticipate their meaning from a few words texting is an easy way to misunderstand what someone’s trying to say.

There’s a lot of people that would love for Key and Peele to come back.
