She was either loved or hated back in the day. Now, Kathy Griffin is just either disliked or hated. The news has been going back and forth about Griffin’s latest antics, and sure enough, this has been the most frequent mention of her name in significant media for a while now. This is in spite of her regular gig at CNN. Because of recent events as brought on by Griffin herself, many people are asking whether her motives were to simply be relevant again.
There was a time when Kathy Griffin’s career was just unstoppable. During her days as a stand-up comic, Griffin found herself in demand not just for comedy shows but also for a variety of other programs including movies and sitcoms. She’s appeared in several successful films; she’s done quite a number of voice-over works, and she’s also made people laugh while making money doing it. She even had her own show, My Life on the D-List, which even earned her an Emmy. She’s co-hosted many shows including The View and her most recent gig with Anderson Cooper at CNN. There was a time when Griffin can truly be considered as one of the most successful stand-up comics that ever graced the stage.
However, Griffin’s humor has also gotten her on the hot seat many times. She’s been banned on many shows, including the ones she co-hosted. She’s also been banned several times from appearing in other talk shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and from performing at venues and establishments including the Apollo Theater.
Griffin’s previous troubles were probably a reflection of her career’s future. With not many avenues to explore anymore, it is possible that her latest antic involving President Donald Trump is a calculated move to propel her career into the spotlight once more. Not too long ago, Griffin posted a picture of herself on Instagram, as she held the decapitated and bloodied head of the President. It was obviously a fake and as per Griffin, a response to the President’s remarks against female menstruation.
As can be expected, though, Griffin had an overwhelmingly negative reception, with all media outlets and sources, celebrities and the general public blasting her on every possible media and social media platform. It was publicity at its best. It may have been brutally negative, but for Griffin, it was the just kind of publicity her career needed to be a part of relevant news once more.
Griffin issued an apology as she lost jobs and many supporters from the controversy. While it may seem as if she’s completely bottomed out, check again. Griffin has capitalized on the situation, now taking back her apologies and waving the red flag once more against President Donald Trump. She’s now twisted her antics and turned it into a socio-political artistic statement against what she claims to be the President’s atrocities against the country. There’s no doubt that Kathy Griffin will take to this platform until she has found a way to another show or another stage–maybe to make money, maybe to find fame once again. Regardless, Griffin has found her footing, and President Donald Trump certainly allowed her the first step.
