In addition to the regular cast, the producers of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ are constantly adding new characters and this keeps it exciting. Just recently, viewers have seen Maggie Grace playing Althea and Garret Dillahunt playing the role of John Dorie. Another newcomer is Lennie James who has taken on the role of Morgan. However, there is another exciting newcomer appearing in the series.
Jenna Elfman is playing the role of a traumatized loner called Naomi who lives alone close to the oil tanks. In her debut appearance, Naomi tries to steal wheels belonging to Madison but later fights by her side when they try to defeat a particularly nasty batch of zombies.
The Clark clan earned her trust enough for her to return with them to the baseball stadium fortress as they deemed this a safe place to stay. However, while Naomi may now trust them, can they trust her? Considering they have yet to learn more about this young woman and her background, they may be taking a risk.
Jenna Elfman has spoken openly about her new role. She first received a call from her agent in November 2017 saying that the producers of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ were interested in her joining the cast as a series regular. She explains that they are attempting a crossover from ‘Walking Dead’ by bringing in new characters.
Elman is delighted to have been given this role as she has been wanting to work in a serious drama role for a while and is now looking forward to delving into the human condition and the struggle of humanity.
As she wanted to fully understand her role, she had a Skype call with Scott Gimple who is the overseer of the franchise. He talked her through her character’s backstory and the ideas that the production team were having about the character.
So far, only a few snippets of information have been revealed about Naomi, such as that she was a nurse, she is not local and that she has no children. Elfman has confirmed that there is a lot more to this character’s backstory and viewers will have the opportunity to discover this in future episodes. It is her backstory that has made Naomi the character she is now. She is a strong woman but broken in many ways due to her previous experiences. Pieces of information about her past will be revealed in small doses in upcoming episodes.
Jenna Elfman has also talked about her experience of joining the cast and filming her first scenes for the series. In one of her first scenes, she was dropped into a giant vat of oil. She has described this as both exciting and challenging. She had to wear a wetsuit throughout filming and, because she was so wet all the time, couldn’t go to the toilet. She usually drinks a lot of water and had to stop doing this to prevent herself from needing the bathroom.
