Ah, Hung. You’re slowly getting weirder and weirder, and I love you more and more. This week’s episode featured the triumphant return of Lenore and Patty, but Tanya was left between a rock and a hard place as Ray contemplates leaving her due to her mediocre marketing skills.
The episode starts off with Ray supervising detention, lecturing the students about why they are cheating. While he is in the middle of an “only cheating yourself” rant, the door opens and Damon walks in with another guy. Ray is shocked, and calls Damon out into the hall, where Damon reveals that he didn’t even get detention — he just came so that he could spend time with a guy who made fun of a teacher. Ray is apprehensive, and Damon defensively asks if Ray is homophobic. Ray obviously is, but says otherwise.
Meanwhile, Tanya phones Patty at work, asking about Patty’s experience with Ray. Patty doesn’t want to talk about it, but they later end up discussing it in the back room. Patty gives a lengthy comparison between Ray and cocaine, complaining about the price of Ray’s services.
Ray and tanya meet up later, and Ray worries to Tanya that Damon’s “a gay.” Tanya thinks that Ray’s being a little insensitive with his usage of gay as a noun, but thinks that it’s perfectly fine for Damon to be gay. She tells Ray that she thinks he should lower his fees, but is interrupted by a call from Piers, who informs her that he’s in Cuba. Tanya is shocked by this, but Ray remains adamant that he not lower his fees, because he wants to fix his roof quickly so that he can regain custody of Damon and Darby.
Speaking of Damon and Darby, the two are rock climbing at a local gym. Damon has apparently just come out to Darby, and Darby asks him if he has had sex with his love interest yet. Damon replies, “Not yet.” Meanwhile, Jessica cheers them on from afar while Ronnie sits behind her, somewhat depressed. He’s hurt that Jessica and her mother went through his things, and is starting to agree with Ray that Jessica just married him for his money. Jessica tries to convince him that she doesn’t care about the money — or Ray. Ronnie tells Jessica to go to a sale and buy something, because whatever makes her happy makes him happy. She reluctantly agrees.
Tanya, meanwhile, attempts to recruit people at work, comedically saying all the wrong things. Tanya is invited to lunch with Lenore, who is mad that Tanya’s using her name to hawk Ray. Lenore decides that it’s time for her to have another round with Ray, and she pays upfront. Taking Ray to an empty clothes store, she makes him try on a suit, telling him a metaphor with shoe brand names, telling him that he should charge higher for his good quality. However, she insists upon coaching him with improving his game, and the two “diversify” while in the department store. Lenore tells Ray that she thinks it’d be wise of Ray to leave Tanya, despite their friendship.
Meanwhile, back at work, Patty threatens Tanya in the bathroom, because Tanya has been telling people that Patty used the service. Patty is quite violent, shoving Tanya into a wall and making it clear that she doesn’t want to hear from Tanya again. As Patty leaves, a woman steps out of a stall, having heard the entire conversation. Tanya and the woman go out to the park, where Tanya tries to get the woman to try her services, but the woman stubbornly only wants to pay $50. Tanya disgustedly leaves.
Meanwhile, Jessica goes to the sale, where she meets Lenore, who gives her fashion tips, and ends up convincing Jessica to spend much more money that she originally wanted to. Upon returning home, Lenore goes through Jessica’s closet. Ronnie returns home as Lenore is doing so, and is shocked that Jessica took advantage of him by buying so many clothes, despite Lenore’s 15% discount. After Ronnie leaves, Lenore tries to empower Jessica by getting her to repeat that she has “the power.”
Ray, meanwhile, tells Tanya about Lenore’s advice, angering Tanya. Ray then leaves to go to detention, but is stopped by beautiful piano playing coming from a nearby room. He goes in to see one of his fellow coaches playing. The coach informs him that due to the recession, the school has cut the music department from the budget. The coach, while playing a blues ditty on the piano, expresses his worry that the sports department is next. Ray tries to reassure him, but the fear in his eyes shows that he thinks it’s completely possible. Ray then leaves the coach to his music and moves on, ignoring a call from Lenore as he does so, ending the episode.
Hung will take a week off, and will return on September 13 with the season one finale.
