Highlights from the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards

The Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards just ran through town a couple of days ago and it was a blast like always. The first official Kids Choice Awards was held in 1988, and has been a yearly event ever since. That’s kind of interesting since back then a lot of the people that are involved in it now either weren’t born yet or were still extremely young and wouldn’t have known just what was going on. But for those of us that have been around since then the event has been something worthwhile to watch and enjoy ever since.

And of course some of the highlights are just too good to miss.

5. The slime

Oh yes, the infamous slime that’s been such a big part of Nickelodeon for so long couldn’t be passed up. This gelatinous gunk has been around for so long that one can’t even think of Nickelodeon without bringing to mind the neon green stuff that has become a mainstay of the network. Its applications have been so widespread across the awards show that people fully expect to see it, they just don’t always know when.

4. The celebrities

The turnout for the awards is usually phenomenal and as a result people get to see their favorite celebrities in attendance or, in this case, hosting the show. John Cena has been a big part of the awards for a little bit now and has managed to encourage a lot more people to watch as the next generation of stars are trotted out and given their due in front of their fans and peers. This is a chance to see just who’s being counted on to hold up the torch as the next generation marches forward.

3. The music

It’s not quite like the Emmy’s or the Academy awards but the music for the KCA is definitely filled with vibrant tone and the kind of energy that kids love and can relate to. Plus there’s always a chance to see a great act get slimed after performing in a manner that gets people going and reminds them of the wealth of talent that’s currently coming out. It’s almost like having a party, a concert, and an awards show all at once. Well, actually it kind of is that I guess.

2. John Cena getting slimed

You know this is one of the things that people come to see since watching celebrities getting slimed is just too fun to miss. And watching the host of the show get the same treatment is something that kids and adults can agree is just too great to pass up on. Cena’s a good sport like always and seems to enjoy himself as he plays it up for the audience. Throughout the WWE and the world of entertainment he’s definitely one of the best hosts that could be found for this type of show.

1. Jojo winning an award

She was a good sport after getting slimed but it was also a great moment to witness Jojo accepted a well-earned reward that she’d worked so hard to achieve. She could have a very bright future ahead of her and one can only hope that it will be something she can cultivate into something great.

They must have one heck of a wardrobe department in the back to get people de-slimed and back onstage.
