Hans Zimmer Breaks Down His Legendary Career, From “Rain Man” to “Inception”

From Rain Man to Inception Han Zimmer’s legendary career has been something unlike anything that’s ever been seen. And yet he still feels that he can do more, that he can somehow do something even greater than he’s ever done before. The mastery that he’s shown in his work is astounding because quite simply because he can do things with music that a lot of people couldn’t possibly dream of. And yet he still thinks he can do better. When he finds the link between his work and the movie he’s working on however it becomes something so transcendent that one can feel the power of it and the majesty of the piece that he’s written in a way that’s almost a story unto itself.

Music tells a story within the story that you can feel rather than see, a plot that can influence the main film and somehow twist it into something that might not have been possible had it not been added in. Hans Zimmer is the kind of guy that can tell that story note by note and he’s so good at it that you might want to add ‘storyteller’ to his resume as well since each and every note that he puts down becomes another part of the tale that can’t be done without.

There were some movies that he didn’t even want to do, like Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean, but somehow once he was introduced to them he had no issue seeing the bigger picture when it came to finally producing the music. At times it seems that he was lucky to even get anything out since as he says he keeps musician’s hours, which means that he works through the night and then sleeps through a good part of the day. That is another part of the genius of this man, he’s so obsessed with his music that it’s about all he has, but somehow it’s the only thing that he should really be sticking to. If not for Hans Zimmer some of these movies on this list, probably all of them really, would not have sounded the same, or right in any case. It’s easy to say that they would have sounded different, but on some basic, fundamental level I get the feeling that they wouldn’t have sounded RIGHT>

It doesn’t matter if some of them happened purely by accident or by trial and error, his contributions to the movies listed in this clip are those that have every right to be labeled as legendary. When it comes to music there’s really no one else like him in the industry. There are others that are just as good and some that might be deemed better but it would be based off the preferences of others that would make such a claim. Zimmer is by far one of the most well-known and most successful musicians in the industry and his work is a testament to the kind of dedication he’s given to his music.
