From ‘The Goldbergs’ to ‘Mom’: The Ultimate TV Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only a few days away? Before you know it, we will be bringing you articles about Rudolph, Frosty, and everything else Christmas-related. The end of the 2015 TV year is drawing near, and we have witnessed so many great moments. We laughed at the ’80s flashbacks from The Goldbergs and cried when Dr. Derek Sherpherd met his demise on Grey’s Anatomy. TV fans were also treated to the return of The Muppets and an addition to the superhero genre with Supergirl. If you are as big of a TV fan as we all are here at TVOvermind, you may have thought what it would be like if all of your favorite TV show characters got together to eat turkey and watch football this Thanksgiving. Well, you no longer have to wait. We picked our favorite TV show characters that we thought would be perfect for a TV Thanksgiving dinner at everyone’s house.

The Mother – Beverly Goldberg from The Goldbergs

As a stay at home (s)mother, Beverly Goldberg lives for taking care of her family. When she is not giving them smoochies, Beverly is cleaning the house, folding laundry, and most importantly cooking delicious meals. Thanksgiving can be her time to shine. She will love every minute preparing dinner for such a large group and she will still find time to give out a huggie or two.

The Father – Seeley Booth from Bones

There are countless TV fathers that you may want to invite over for Thanksgiving dinner, but none of them can compare to FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth. The father of three finds time look after his family and still solves murders with his lovely wife Dr. Temperance Brennan. He may even talk about one of his gruesome cases (after dinner, of course).

The Oldest Child – Kara Danvers from Supergirl

Most 24-year-olds would welcome a home-cooked meal, so we are sure that Kara would fly (get it?) at the chance to have someone prepare a dinner for her in between fighting crime and saving lives. Think of all the great stories Kara could discuss from protecting the citizens of National City. She might even bring her potential new boyfriend, James Olsen, with her to meet your family.

The Middle Child – Sue Heck from The Middle

Now that Sue Heck has ventured off to college, she probably wants nothing more than a hot cooked meal to come home to for the holiday. Her own mother Frankie Heck is not the world’s greatest cook, so Sue would welcome an invitation to your Thanksgiving dinner. Not only can she discuss all the super cool clubs she has joined, but she can talk about her scary college roommate.

The Youngest Child – Jack and Diane Johnson from Black-ish

Instead of having one youngest child, why not invite Black-ish twins Jack and Diane Johnson over for Turkey day. They could not be any more different, but one thing is clear: they are both incredibly funny. It also helps that they are so darn cute.

The Grandma – Bonnie Plunkett from Mom

Bonnie Plunkett is probably not the person who comes to mind when you are thinking of the grandma type you would like at your Thanksgiving dinner. However, she would definitely be the craziest. You just have to make sure you hide the booze since she is a recovering alcoholic.

The Grandpa – Jimmy Martino from Grandfathered

He does not act or look like a grandfather, but Jimmy Martino can still come over for Thanksgiving in the grandfather role. He could use a nice break since it has only been two months since he found out that he not only has a son, but that son had a daughter of his own. Since Jimmy owns a restaurant, he could have his chefs whip up something nice to bring with him to dinner.

The Aunt – Gabby Dawson from Chicago Fire

It has been a hard year for Gabby Dawson with the miscarriage she experienced just a few weeks ago, so she is probably not in the mood to be hosting a Thanskgiving dinner. And with her brother Antonio’s kids not around after the separation, she has time to come over and hang with your family. Hopefully there isn’t any Thanksgiving dinner fires that would send her away with the rest of  the Chicago Fire crew.

The Uncle – Mitch Pritchett and Cameron Tucker from Modern Family

It would be hard to pick only one of these two witty uncles from Modern Family so why not invite them both over for Thanksgiving dinner? Since they are married, it would not be fair for one to stay home. Cam will probably even show up with his face painted for the game and Mitch can come and drink all the wine.  Lily is still not old enough to fend for herself, so she can come too. The more the merrier!

The Cousins – The Muppets from The Muppets

Every family has those cousins who are just a tad bit crazy. We cannot think of anyone kookier or worthy of a seat at your Thanksgiving dinner than the muppets. Miss Piggy could talk about how great she is, Fozzie could tell hilarious jokes, and Kermit might even sing a song or two. If you have enough seats at the table, you can even extend an invite to Gonzo, Animal, and Scooter.

The Pet – Brian from Family Guy

If you are going to have a family pet over for Thanksgiving it might as well be one that you can talk to when you want to get away from the rest of the family. Also, Brian likes to drink so you can sit and knock a few back with him to tolerate the holiday. Another benefit of having Brian come to Thanksgiving is the fact that he is house trained. You will not have any surprise treats waiting for you like with other pets if you forget to take them outside to take care of their business.
