Glee 2.15 “Sexy” Review

Glee 2.15 “Sexy” ReviewI absolutely loved last night’s Glee.

See, Mr. Murphy, that’s what great teen drama is supposed to be all about. It needs to be fun, have enough drama thrown in to mix things up and actually have a great message by the end of the episode that just might contribute to lives of the millions of teens watching your show across the globe.

And ‘Sexy’did just that.

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not crazy about Gwyneth Paltrow’s character Holly Holiday, but she actually started to grow on me a little last night. She came back to be a sub for the Sex Ed class and found out that most of the Glee kids are basically clueless when it comes to sex, STDs and pregnancy. That paved the way to a really enlightening episode about how to discuss sex with your friends and family and how it doesn’t have to be a big deal.

Although we are in the 21st century and information is just one click away on the internet, sex is still taboo in a lot of households worldwide. It’s ironic that in a time that sexuality and sex are explored to its maximum to increase audience and sells, people still find it hard to talk about the subject in an open, honest way with their kids.

What we witnessed last night – first with Kurt’s dad trying to talk to him about gay sex and how important it is to be informed and protected; and then with Holly helping Santana and Brittany figure out their relationship and sexuality was nothing short of amazing for a network TV show. I really hope this opens up the path for parents to feel comfortable to talk to their children and inform them.

Kudos to Naya Rivera, who was stellar through the entire episode. That scene when she declares herself to Brittany was heartbreaking and rang so true to what a lot of girls must go through. The fear of rejection, prejudice, fear of accepting herself as different… she played it beautifully and actually brought tears to my eyes.

All around, great episode. It’s definitely going to my favorites list.

A+, Glee. Keep up the good work.
