I am still shocked. Beyond shocked. Congratulations, Ryan Murphy, because I most definitely did not see that coming. Seriously, this episode goes down in history as one of the most surprising plot twists of the season.
Okay, before we get to the very, very unexpected surprise, let’s chat for a bit. I’m going to be really honest here. I haven’t been all that excited about Glee this season. It has been entertaining, the performances are most of the time pretty awesome, but I felt like the plot was somewhat lacking substance. It got to a point where I was basically watching it just for the music. It felt like the producers weren’t really putting an effort in creating a storyline that permeated through the entire season, or at least part of it, as it is common on other TV shows.
But ‘Never Been Kissed’changed things. Finally, we have got a good storyline to look forward to. I admit when Darren Criss first appeared in last night’s episode, I wasn’t really impressed and thought that The Warbles’performance was borderline corny. Then he started helping Kurt deal with his issues and guess what, I love him now! I think he will be really, really good for Kurt. He even encouraged Kurt to stand up to Neanderthal football player who has always been a bully. And when Kurt gave him a piece of his mind, the most unexpected thing happened.
Neanderthal kissed Kurt.
I repeat, Neanderthal kissed — for real kissed — Kurt. I swear I was staring at the screen for an entire minute with my jaw to the floor. Honestly. I knew there was going to be a surprising kiss in this episode, but I just figured it would be Kurt and Blaine (Darren Criss). Never, not in a million years, would I have ever guessed it was going to be Neanderthal bully.
I can’t wait to see where they are going with this plot.
The other storyline was that the boys pictured Coach Beiste in lingerie whenever they wanted to cool off a bit during a make out session with their girlfriends. Will and Sue obviously find out and eventually Beiste finds out as well. She is hurt and tells Will that beneath all that touch exterior she’s just a girl. And she has never been kissed.
Will, being the sweet guy that he is, kisses her. It would’ve been surprising — it kind of was — but I was still so shocked about the other kiss that it didn’t even really register with me until after it was over.
The episode had such a good plot — or maybe it was just the shock factor — that the performances just kind of flew by for me. They were very good — except for the corny show in Blaine’s school — but for once, I liked the drama better.
Oh, and did I mention that Puck is back? I absolutely loved his interaction with Artie and the total twist at the end of the episode.
‘Never Been Kissed’gets an A+ for the shock factor and finally presenting a storyline I just might start to care about. The fact that Puck is back was just the icing on the cake.
