I’m a huge fan of the movie Unbreakable. I always felt it was an incredible homage to comic books but also just an extremely well done film. It was after Unbreakable that we saw M. Night’s decline as a director. Thankfully he came back in a big way this year with Split. Personally I think if not for Split we wouldn’t even be having this conversation or announcement that we got today. But given how big a hit Split was, I’m pretty sure this gives M. Night a free pass at another 5 or 6 films before people start getting annoyed again. Let’s just hope each one of whatever films he makes rises in quality instead of declines. According to THR
The writer-director announced the news Wednesday on Twitter after months of teasing a new script he’s been writing. He revealed the film is called Glass, and that Bruce Willis (David Dunn) and Samuel L. Jackson (Mr. Glass/Elijah Price) will return. Universal will release the film Jan. 18, 2019.
“It’s taken 17 years but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, ‘Are you making a sequel to Unbreakable or what?’ ” he tweeted. “My new film is the sequel to #Unbreakable AND #Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.”
Given the remarkable success of Split, the guy can pretty much do whatever he wants right now. $9 million budget turned into $275 million? Not bad. Let’s just hope there’s no “Airbender” films in the future. Stick to what you know M. Night. That’s solid, dark films with amazing twists at the end.
Universal Pictures will release Glass on January 18, 2019 all over the world.
