Going from the internet to TV is almost moving backward at this point, but I got to thinking that some current websites on the internet could benefit from having their own TV channel.
With all the crap on TV right now, I think that some fresh blood could be useful, and these five sites have what it takes to make their own channel work.
TheChive
Right now the Chive is a photo site, but imagine if they expanded some of their galleries into videos? The most badass cars could be a video tour around the world. The most gorgeous beach vacations could be a travel series. The hottest Chivettes could be a show that was six hours of just hot girls staring into a camera. It’s pretty much perfect.
Politico
Right now CSPAN is the go-to channel for all-politics, all the time. Fox News and MSNBC try, but they inject a whole lot of bias into their programming. CNN airs cat videos they find on YouTube. Politico could be a serious-minded politics channel, and one that didn’t obviously swing one way or the other without being terribly boring. It’s something cable TV needs, and currently doesn’t have.
Cracked
If you’ve never been to Cracked, you either just discovered the internet yesterday or you’re lying. The self proclaimed “only” humor site on the web, it pretty much invented and perfected the internet list. They inform and entertain and they never seem to run out of ideas. They already do some video features, and it would be easy to see this working.
Oh god, this is a can of worms, but we were just talking about cat videos. Reddit has so much content both informative, funny and insane, there would be a never ending series of programming that would suit everyone. Each subreddit could get its own show from gaming to politics to atheism to all the other ones people hate now. But there’d be a few gems buried within, and r/awww might end up being the most popular show on TV.

What, like we were going to leave ourselves off this list? There’s no real channel right on TV dedicated to talking ABOUT TV. I see the potential of something like “Talking Dead” and wonder how it could expand to other shows. What if there were 30 minutes to an hour of discussion about every major show airing across all networks? Fans could write in live via Twitter or Facebook, and it could be a real conversation that simply doesn’t exist on TV now. This is really my only serious idea here. I, of course, would host. Hah.
