America Ferrera has come a very long way in a short period of time as far as her career in Hollywood is concerned. Most of us were introduced to the burgeoning star as she took on the key role in Ugly Betty, but she has done a number of movies since, got married to Ryan Piers Williams, and she recently announced that the two of them are expecting their first child together. Ryan and America are not new to one another as they have been romantically involved for more than a decade. While most people are at least familiar with America, some of you may not be as familiar with Ryan, so here are five details that will help you connect some of the dots.
1. He and America Have Been Intimately Involved for More than 12 Years
The two actually took a trip to Iceland last summer to celebrate their 12th anniversary of being together. The trip was well-documented by the couple as they took what appeared to be an unending number of photos, which they happily shared on their Instagram accounts. When the pictures of these are viewed, the first thing that immediately jumps out is how much they enjoy each other’s company.
2. The Met While at the University of Texas
Not only have these two been dating for twelve years, but they also qualify as college sweethearts. It is kind of funny how they met. Williams cast America in one of his student films. So, I guess you can say that Ryan gave America her first acting gig. There are some varying accounts of how it all went down, but one thing is certain – once Ryan laid his eyes on American he was smitten and he was never letting her get away.
3. Ryan is Politically Engaged
While it is possible to have different political views, the marriage seems to work better when you are on the same page as to who you want to be the next president of the United States. For both, Ryan and America, their choice to replace Barack Obama as president was Hillary Clinton. This interesting for a number of reasons. The glaring reason is that Ryan is Texas-born and Texas is a red state through and through. Nevertheless, Ryan was visibly present at multiple Clinton rallies during her push for president.
4. He Has Directed Movies America Appeared In
As it turns out, Ryan did not only direct America in college; he has directed two films that she has starred in – ‘The Dry Land’ and “X/Y.’ These two are proof that it is possible to work together in the same profession and maintain a positive relationship at home and at work. They both admit that they loved taking on the challenges of bringing a film together in which they play integral roles in making it all happen.
5. Ryan is Incredibly Athletic
When you think about brilliant film minds, you don’t necessarily envision physicality as being a primary asset; however, Ryan is extremely athletic. Fortunately, America also enjoys training and staying fit, which leads to the adage – the couple that trains together stays together. Well, something like that. The two enjoy swimming, running and resistance training, just to name a few.
