Luis Alfonso Rodriguez Lopez-Cepero is a singer and songwriter who is better known by his stage name, Luis Fonsi. He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 15, 1978. He began his career in the entertainment industry in 1998 and is usually associated with the Latin pop and reggaetón genres of music. He is best-known for his song ‘Despacito’, which he wrote and performed and was released in January 2017. The track featured Daddy Yankee and became a worldwide hit. This song was later remixed by Justin Timberlake. In November 2017, he released a duet with talented singer Demi Lovato called ‘Echame la Culpa’. 1. He Focused on a Musical Career from a Young Age
From an early age, Luis Fonsi showed talent as a vocalist and a musician. As a young child, he would imitate famous singers and joined the San Juan Children’s Choir. After moving to mainland United States, he sang with Florida State University Singers and also joined a group called ‘Big Guys’ who performed at parties and festivals.
2. He was the Opening Act for a Britney Spears Tour
Although he released his first album in 1998, he was only well-known in Latin America. This changed when he had the opportunity to perform as the opening act on a Britney Spears tour. In 2002, he was part of the ‘Britney Spears Dream Within a Dream Tour’ and performed in many locations across the United States and in Mexico. This led to him releasing his first English-speaking album. The following year, he also performed to an international audience at Miss World 2003 which was hosted in China.
3. He Has Also Worked as an Actor
Luis Fonsi is best-known as a singer and songwriter. However, he has also enjoyed an acting career. His first acting role was in the romance film ‘Como Agua Para Chocolate’. In recognition of his talents, he has won many awards. In 2017, he won four Latin Grammy Awards in different categories for his song ‘Despacito’. 5. He Was Married to Adamari Lopez
Luis Fonsi became romantically involved with actress Adamari Lopez in 2003. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2005, he canceled a tour to be by her side and travelled to many countries with her while she underwent treatment. The following year, doctors confirmed that she was in remission. The couple married in Puerto Rico in June 2006 but were divorced in 2010. Fonsi then met Spanish model Agueda and they had their daughter Mikaela in 2011. They were married in 2014 and had their son Rocco in 2016.
