Johnny Iuzzini was one of those folks that seemed destined to become a chef. Growing up he developed a love for fresh fruits and vegetables that were grown in his mother’s garden. He even became a dishwasher at a local golf club to further his chances of one day becoming a cook. He eventually found his way to being a pastry chef and from that point on was on the fast track to fame. Unfortunately as of late Johnny has been embroiled in the scandal of sexual misconduct allegations that have forced ABC to pull him from the Great American Baking Show.
Here’s a few more things you might not have known about him.
5. He wasn’t fond of working as a chef.
His mother was an assistant veterinarian and Johnny was accustomed to helping her with various animals and their care as he was growing up. This was a big reason why he wasn’t that enthused to be working in a kitchen where whole animals were being used for culinary purposes. He made his transition to being a pastry chef not too long after getting into the business.
4. He’s written his own cookbooks.
This seems like a regular list item for most chefs that gain any measure of renown. If you’ve read any of them you might notice that a lot of recipes seem somewhat familiar. The difference is usually in the preparation and the materials used so that a chef can call a recipe their own. It’s one of the many things that chefs seem wont to do when they start gaining any notoriety.
3. He enjoys making appearances.
Anyone worth their salt in the food industry definitely wants to make themselves known so that they can put their name and their brand out as soon as possible. Johnny hasn’t been shy about getting himself out there and meeting with people when it comes to getting further exposure. This is something that almost needs to be done if anyone wants to go anywhere.
2. He’s been a celebrated TV chef.
He’s been featured on Top Chef: Just Desserts and Cutthroat Kitchen. Lately however he’s been the subject of a sexual misconduct allegation which has forced ABC to part ways with him until everything is settled. He’s been accused of sexual harassment against several women that he’s worked within in the past and several more have come forward after the initial accusation.
1. He won his first noted award by the time he was in high school.
That’s pretty impressive and is further proof that he was destined to become someone great from the start. The type of nerve and dedication it takes to keep that kind of dream alive for so long is something very special. A lot of people have a dream when they’re teenagers and then let it go as time goes on, but thankfully Johnny kept his.
It could be headed in a bad direction however if the accusations are real. One can only hope that everything gets sorted out.
