Five Things You Didn’t Know about Dan Blankenship

Dan Blankenship is just one of the individuals that was lured to the infamous Oak Island and has spent a veritable fortune trying to find something that may very well not be there at all. It’s hard to say yea or nay to the idea that something might still be on the island, but if they’ve been looking this long and still haven’t found anything it might be time to throw in the towel. Rational minds don’t usually allow for the existence of something that’s yet to be found in a search that has little to no basis in anything but legend.

Just because some facts are buried in legends doesn’t make them entirely true.

5. He knows the most about Oak Island.

Dan has the most extensive knowledge about the island and is the authority in many cases on whatever a person might want to know about it. He’s spent a good deal of his life and money on this place and as a result he probably should know more than just about anyone at this point.

4. He left a good life in Florida.

Dan left a very comfortable life in Florida where he had a good business, friends, a good life and a comfortable position. Upon discovering that this was a possibility that he could latch onto he uprooted himself and his wife and came to Oak Island looking for something that would supposedly make him and anyone that he was attached to rich beyond anything they’d ever known.

3. He’s been obsessed with Oak Island for 49 years.

Obsessed might be a strong word but it’s definitely one of his main interests for a long time. To stick with something for that long indicates that it carries a lot of meaning to him. The idea of buried treasure and the fabled Money Pit would likely draw anyone in, but the fact that it has yet to be found is something that might tell others that the legend was just that, a legend told to those that would easily believe such a fable.

2. This is a big gamble for him.

Dan has put a lot into this project and has been waiting patiently for something to be found but so far it seems all he’s been doing is spending money looking for something that should have appeared by now. If anything did pop up a lot of people would be eating humble pie for a while. But until then it’s pretty easy to say that he’s gambled a sure life for something that he had no idea about based on something that was less than real.

1. He’s 91 years old.

He’s still getting around but he’s not getting any younger at this point. If nothing shows up anytime soon there’s no telling if he’s going to be around to enjoy it or if he’ll be able to enjoy it anyway. 91 is not young any longer no matter how longevity varies between individuals. Eventually the search could take every last thing from him.

Sometimes legends really are just stories.
