Superhero parenting can be something of a joke for significant swathes of the superhero comics fandom. In part, this is because of superheroes’ often questionable assumptions about what is appropriate for children, as shown by the sheer number of teenage sidekicks who become involved in super-powered dust-ups. However, it should also be noted that some superheroes have been known to make poor life-choices from time to time, which can have a serious effect on those around them. With that said, it is important to note that not all superheroes fall into this pattern, meaning that there are some that would make incredible parents.
Here are five superheroes who would make incredible parents:
Black Canary
In some of the stories, Black Canary has been a successful teacher, which suggests that she has the patience to handle her own children. To support this, it is worth noting that one version of the character actually adopted a child at one point, who became so important to her that she was willing to leave her position as a superhero to focus on her child. Furthermore, it is worth noting that Black Canary often comes as a package deal with Green Arrow, though since Green Arrow has made some rather questionable decisions from time to time, it is uncertain whether that should be considered a positive or not.
Captain America
On initial inspection, Captain America doesn’t seem like he’d have a lot of skills that would translate well to parenting, but it’s worth noting that he has the humble mindset needed to learn when he is unsure about something. Better still, his strong sense of justice, which existed even before he received the super soldier serum, means that he is bound to instill excellent values in his children without overwhelming them in the process.
Spiderman
Spiderman seems like the sort of person who would end up spouting a lot of dad jokes, which are kind of embarrassing but also kind of charming in a comfortable way at the same time. Moreover, while Spiderman is considered to be one of the smarter characters in the Marvel setting, he is surprisingly normal in spite of it, which comes as a refreshing contrast considering all of the shenanigans surrounding other intellectual titans such as Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic, and Hank Pym. Unfortunately, Spiderman does have terrible luck, which could be a strike against him as a parent.
Superman
Some of the recent versions of Superman have made some questionable choices, but the classic version of the character is a paragon with outstanding empathy as well as a genuine belief in taking the right course of action. Better still, Superman tends to be one of the strongest characters in whatever setting that he happens to be in, meaning that there aren’t a lot of positions that are safer to be in than his child, assuming that the writers don’t need a contrived but nonetheless dramatic death to turn him evil anyways.
Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman was created as a superheroine who would guide people onto the right path through a combination of compassion with the willingness to use more forceful measures when the need came up. As a result, she seems like she would make for a great mom, particularly since she also has a strong sense of responsibility as the princess of her people. With that said, Wonder Woman tends to be depicted as a daughter of Zeus in recent times, meaning that being her child might be a mixed blessing considering the pugnacious nature of the Greek pantheon.
