The TV Land original new series “Nobodies” is a brilliant brainchild that is produced by Melissa McCarthy and her producer husband Ben Falcone. The show focuses on the lives of three comedic writers/actors who were a part of a comedy group and are now trying to market their first screenplay titled Mr. First Lady. The pilot and first episodes lay out the central plot which involves summoning the courage to ask a friend who has made it big to agree to star in their screenplay. The Nobodies are these three hopefuls who have yet to achieve the success that their former partners have. The series is must see to appreciate filmography as it is filled with nuances and redirects that offer hints that build high expectations in the viewing audience. Here are five reasons why you should watch “Nobodies” and give it a chance.
1. Well written
Good writing builds a strong plot and adds supporting filler that takes the audience from insane laughter to feelings of sympathy, sadness or occasionally disgust with the characters. Nobodies has delivered on all fronts. The first few episodes set a strong foundation that laid out the story and gave some helpful insight into the characters adn where they are at in their lives.
2. Touches the audience on multiple levels
The writing/actor trio can come off as being fairly pathetic with some very bright moments, but their delivery of the script is generally hilarious. Viewers can quickly move from feeling the frustration and occasionally jealousy of these hopefuls over friends who have achieved success while they are still struggling to make it. The show employs situational comedy scenes that are sprinkled with other moments that give it a perfect balance for taking the viewers up, down, then up again. You can’t help but love the cast of Rachel Ramras, Larry Dorf and Hugh Davidson.
3. Fantastic cameos
The cameo appearances are brilliant as tie ins for the themes of the episode shot. Well know actors including Jim Rash, Nat Faxon, Maya Rudolph and Ben Falcone with their familiar faces appear as pleasant surprises. Melissa McCarthy appeared in the pilot as well. Falcone appeared in the first few episodes and drops a few strong hints that suggest we’ll be seeing Melissa at some point at the right moment.
4. Suspense and comedy combined
We can already tell that this funny trio is out to find their niche in Hollywood and will stop at little to get it. Most of us who are following the show are rooting for them to get their big break. As it stands, it’s plain to see that there is a level of embarrassment that goes along with the other emotions that arise from being the ones left behind in the journey to stardom and success. This leaves room for a host of hilarious situations as they attempt to approach the friends who have done well. This is a difficult task for each of the three and it’s not hard to see why. Mustering up the guts to ask a successful friend for help when they’ve outdone you is a humbling experience. The threat of rejection is even more demeaning of a notion.
5. Nobodies contains inspiration
The main characters are attempting to break through the glass ceiling in Hollywood. The unseen barrier that stands between them and elusive success. The approaches that they take are funny, but at times, touching because most of us have been held back from our dreams at some point. This is one of the more sobering aspects of the show and it makes us root for the underdog all the more. The fact that so many stars are appearing gives us an indication that the groundlings are on the cusp of making it over the hump and having their script read. They come close to gaining the notoriety that they so desire, but so far, close hasn’t gotten them where they want to be.
Nobodies is a comedy show that is sprinkled with the realism that comes with being a mere hopeful in a sea of stars who have made it to the top. The writers of the show have thrown in enough sad, thoughtful and real moments to give viewers a temporary break to get ready for the next round of chuckles. This is one comedy that you must watch to truly appreciate.
