As strange as it sounds, Arrested Development isn’t dead. In fact, a fifth season started getting made in August of 2017, with the result that it is expected to be released via Netflix at some point in 2018. As a result, now is a good time to go over some of the funniest moments from the series, with an excellent example being the shenanigans of Tobias Fünke played by David Cross.
Here are five of the funniest Tobias moments from Arrested Development:
Analyst Therapist Moment
Tobias is not the best person when it comes to the use of words. This is because he is prone to saying things with implied meanings that he doesn’t intend, which is particularly bad because he is oblivious to this habit of his. However, Tobias’s cluelessness isn’t infinite, as shown by the time when he claimed to be both an analyst and a therapist before smooshing the two words together to create a rather unfortunate combined title. Fortunately, for once in his life, Tobias was actually able to realize that said title might not have been the best idea even if he insisted on continuing with its use anyways.
His Insistence That He Isn’t Gay
Supposedly, Tobias is heterosexual. For example, he is married to Lindsay Bluth Fünke, with whom he has a daughter. However, one of his most notable characteristics is his habit of uttering a succession of innuendo as well as double entendres that make it sound as though he is into men instead. With that said, the most amusing part might be Tobias’s insistence that he isn’t gay even as he is acting in a stereotypical manner for gay men.
Blue Man Group
Tobias wants to become an actor. Unfortunately, his acting career doesn’t exactly taking off, which is why he resorts to less than prestigious roles over the course of the series. One excellent example is him being the understudy for the Blue Man Group, which resulted in him going around while slathered in blue paint for the whole of Season 2.
Never Nude
Like most of the characters, Tobias has plenty of issues. However, the single most memorable example might be the fact that he is a never-nude, which is essentially a very serious version of gymnophobia played for laughs. This is the reason that Tobias is pretty much always wearing cutoffs beneath his clothing, which results in a number of hilarious moments over the course of the series.
Mrs. Featherbottom
At one point in time, Tobias decided to prove his acting skills to his doubting family by taking a page from Robin Williams’s Mrs. Doubtfire. In Tobias’s case, the result was Mrs. Featherbottom, which fooled neither his wife nor his daughter, though they went along with it anyways. As it turned out, attempting to reproduce the feats of movie nannies turned out to be a terrible idea, though Tobias getting exposed was the least of his problems in this regard.
