Five Great Movie Scenes That Were Shot on Long Island

Films are typically shot in various locations and are not that often shot entirely on site. But out of many locations around the world that host blockbuster movies, and there are a lot of them, New York is one in which there is almost a movie shooting somewhere. The Big Apple plays host to a large number of productions that  either do or don’t capture the attention of audiences around the world, though half the time it’s hard to know if the movie is really being shot in the city or not. With green screen and CGI so rampant in movies these days it’s really hard to know where anything’s being shot unless you read an IMDb page.

Here are a few movies that were shot in Long Island, New York.

5. The Wolf of Wall Street

Taking into consideration just where Wall Street is and how big of an influence New York should have been on this movie this isn’t much of a surprise. While critics still wonder if the story was told with any accuracy it stands to reason that someone that was accused of the things Jordan Belfort was could have possibly held a soiree of this magnitude and things might have just happened that shouldn’t have.

4. The Godfather

A lot of people are divided as to whether this was the best scene in the film or one of the saddest. Let’s put it this way, Sonny was not the most well-liked character in the story. He could have used some further development but obviously Mario Puzo, the author of The Godfather, didn’t think it was worth the trouble. It’s definitely one of the more brutal scenes since Sonny isn’t just riddled with bullets, but while he lays dying he gets kicked in the face for good measure.

3.  Men In Black 3

It’s way too easy to resent a parent for not being there for so much of your life, but when you find out why that was you get a different perspective. J wondered for so many years why his father was never around that he grew bitter and resentful of a man he barely remembered. Once he got to see just why his father wasn’t around however things became very different.

2. Cruel Intentions

About the only time this movie traveled to Long Island was when they showed the Valmont family mansion. Other times they were all over the country shooting impressive scenes that had little if anything to do with New York. Perhaps movies would be a little more impressive at times if they were actually shooting where they were supposed to be set, when possible.

1. Meet the Parents

Ever notice how it’s the guy in the relationship that is nervous about meeting the parents? I’m sure the woman is too but for some reason there’s this deep sense of dread at meeting your girlfriend’s parents that settles into a man’s stomach like a hard, sick little knot. The sad part is that it doesn’t go away with time, it has to be unwound by actually getting along with the parents.

Every scene on this list was shot in Long Island, even if it was supposed to be elsewhere.
