It’s a little difficult to find funny movie scenes for an actor like Brian Dennehy since he’s way more of a dramatic actor than anything. It’s possible, but the scenes below might get criticized for not being the kind of humor that people would normally think of as funny. Being as I made this list however and I have a dark sense of humor it stands to reason that some of them are hilarious and others are funny simply because you couldn’t possibly imagine why people would find themselves in such a situation in the first place.
Yes, I do have a dark sense of humor sometimes.
5. Ratatouille
This is one of the most innocent funny scenes with Dennehy since it’s animated and allows him to just be himself for the most part. Most rats wouldn’t think twice about what they eat, but Remy is that one rat in a thousand or more that is actually picky and wants only good food. His father doesn’t agree initially but by the end of the movie he’s finally accepted that his son is meant for something more than eating garbage.
4. Cocoon
When a group of strangers takes over an old pool house that a group of senior citizens were using as their personal getaway the old folks start to notice the strange effects that come over them once they enter and then exit the pool. They feel younger, stronger, and more alive than they have in years. Unfortunately when the secret gets out the aliens that have been inhabiting the pods that lie within the pool come close to death as their life-sustaining energy becomes seriously drained.
3. Rambo: First Blood
This is where dark and strange humor comes in. Imagine this, a stranger has just busted out of your police station while swatting your people aside as though they were children. He’s escaped into the mountains and doesn’t bother attacking until someone starts shooting at him. Then you learn he’s a war hero and was special forces. So you keep going after him? Um, no, call the army, tel them to send in whoever it takes, don’t be a fool and start a war with a guy that could cut you down without a second thought.
2. Summer Catch
The funniest scene having to do with Brian Dennehy has to do with one of the ball players, played by Freddie Prinze Jr., who unfortunately wakes up late and forgets that he’s wearing a lady’s thong. When he comes rushing into practice, late, he causes quite a stir as he tries to explain just why he wasn’t able to show up on time, and Dennehy looks on in disbelief.
1. Tommy Boy
As far as comedy goes I think that big Tom Callahan was one of his absolute best roles. He was kind, he was fair, but he was also opinionated and knew how to talk people into doing what he wanted, so long as it was good for business on both ends.
He’s not much of a comedian but he can be funny.
