The Five Biggest Jane The Virgin Season 3 Plot Twists

Who does not love the Venezuelan Telenovela remake of “Juana le Virgen”? Its rhythmic timing and dramatic elements leave us excited for the next episode every time. The CW’s version of this story, which began its run in 2014 and was developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, is headed into its fourth season. Season 3 has been filled with plot twists, so we cannot wait to see what is ahead in Season 4. This critically acclaimed serial television show never ceases to disappoint us.

Here are five of the biggest “Jane the Virgin” Season 3 plot twists.

Michael and Jane’s Financial Troubles

Michael’s gunshot wounds from the end of Season 2 left us in suspense. When his partner, Susanna (actually art thief Sin Routro in disguise) shoots Michael on his wedding day, everyone was left in shock. Season 3 saw us through Michael’s recovery but also the trauma it brought on him and Jane. After failing to pass his medical physical which would have left him as a “desk cop” devastated Michael, he and Jane went through both economical and existential dilemmas as they struggled to make ends meet and knew they both wanted to grow their family by adding children of their own. Michael’s final decision to become a lawyer helped the two lovers find hope.

Jane’s return to the Church

In Season 3, Jane is urged by her grandmother Alba to return to church and to take Mateo with her. Jane is hesitant but reveals to a nun at the convent that she is angry at God. She does not understand how God could allow the senseless shooting of Michael on their wedding day. She does not understand why they have to suffer the traumatic after effects of the shooting. The nun reassures Jane that her feelings are normal and to be expected and urges Jane to return to the church.

Rafael’s past revealed

Rafael Solano tours the convent in Season 3 which stirs up flashbacks to his childhood memories. He is even recognized by a nun. When he speaks with Sister Constantine, she reveals that the nuns of the convent were in on the stolen art scam connected to Rafael’s father, Mutter. The nun gives Rafael an envelope. Inside is his birth certificate revealing that Rafael was born in Italy and is not a Solano.

Jane goes forward with her writing career

Rafael convinces Jane to move forward with her writing career. Not only for Mateo and her sake, but for Michael who would have encouraged her. Jane goes through an “Alfred Hitchcock period” which couples with the dynamics of the show. She ends up getting a publishing deal for $50,000. She also starts dating again.

Michael’s Death

Although not a complete surprise, Michael’s death was still a devastating blow to fans of the show. When Michael was shot in Season 2, it was the worst thing to happen on his and Jane’s wedding day. With the broken down Rolls-Royce and the manic bus ride to the Church, it seemed like Jane and Michael would finally live happily ever after. Then, Michael’s partner Susanna (actually Sin Routro in disguise) shot him. After going through his recovery and the post traumatic stress the shooting caused both Jane and Michael, Michael dies from gunshot complications while trying to move forward in his career and taking the LSAT to go to law school.
