It’s hard to see your favorite actors take on roles that you don’t like seeing them in. There are many reasons for it really, but people tend to ignore this and focus instead on the why of the casting more than the reason that those individuals they love to watch might have done such a thing. It’s easy to understand that actors need to make a living too, and sometimes if the well runs dry they have to find whatever they can in order to make a paycheck. Seeing as how not all of them can live off of endorsements and the like it stands to reason that sometimes they will have to resort to taking roles that they might never do if they had a choice. Still, a lot of fans are not quite as forgiving and have actually expressed open hatred for the actors, not the characters, when they have taken on certain roles.
It might seem a little silly to blame the actor for their assumed persona in a film, but then fans are never the most stable bunch.
5. Anthony Hopkins – Hannibal Lecter
Now keep in mind when this film came out Hannibal Lecter was not yet as well-known or revered as he is today. The cannibalistic doctor had yet to creep his way into our hearts and many people had an issue with him taking on the role of an obviously deranged criminal. His acting was so on point that eventually people would come to realize that he had found a role that could be immortalized in time. But at that moment some people were in no way happy with Hopkins.
4. Josh Brolin – Jonah Hex
He just wasn’t right for the role is the general consensus. Even Brolin admitted that he didn’t want the role even though he did it. But bills have to be paid remember? He’s likely taken on a few roles that he regrets, but the shade thrown his way for this character was horrible. Thankfully he went on to do other projects that redeemed his reputation and good name.
3. Megan Fox – Mikaela Banes
It’s not really certain why so many people throw hatred at Fox but apparently she’s not the easiest person to work with and doesn’t really believe in personal hygiene if the millions of posts are to be believed. More than anything she’s caught flak for her role in Transformers simply because it wasn’t believable and she was really just thought to be eye candy for the most part. I mean hey now, she wasn’t the worst decision for the role.
2. Will Smith – Cypher Raige
For all the talent he possesses this was just an absolutely horrible role. He looked like he was phoning the part in most of the time and couldn’t be bothered to show anything even close to a human emotion. Given that he’s been so expressive in his other roles a lot of fans had to watch it again just to be certain it was him.
1. George Clooney – Batman
There is a curse on the Batman role that so far has affected everyone but Keaton and Bale, who have both put in solid performances. Clooney almost had the Bruce Wayne aspect right, but he just couldn’t slip into the Batman role at all. He’s actually admitted to apologizing over and over for ever taking this role.
There are a lot of other actors that have been given a hard time for the roles they’ve taken on. These were just a few of the most noteworthy.
