The Field in the Movie “Field of Dreams” Gets Vandalized

Even now, Field of Dreams remains a significant movie for people in the United States as well as other countries. For proof, look no further than the fact that it continues to make the lists of the best movies, which are in addition to the fact that it has been honored with a place in the U.S. National Film Registry. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that the field featured in Field of Dreams sees a fair number of visitors on a regular basis, which is now ruined because someone has vandalized it.

For those who are curious, someone waited for significant rainfall. After which, they drove onto the field in what seems to have been a truck of some sort, with the result that there are now four-inch gashes carved throughout much of the field. Furthermore, it seems that the vandal actually did a fair amount of damage to the sprinkler system for the field, which explains why the damages are now estimated to measure in the thousands and thousands of dollars. Summed up, it seems probable that this wasn’t something that happened on the whim of the moment but rather something that someone planned out ahead of time, which makes it that much more irritating to learn.

Regardless, there is now a crowdfunding platform on GoFundMe to raise $15,000 for the purpose of fixing the field as well as installing a new security system for the purpose of preventing further incidents of this nature. So far, a fair amount of progress has been made, but more money is sure to prove helpful, which is why people who loved Field of Dreams might want to consider making a small contribution. Otherwise, let us hope that whoever committed the crime will be caught, though it should be noted that since the field had no security cameras, there isn’t much evidence at the moment.

This incident seems rather senseless, but that is not particularly uncommon for cases of vandalism. Sometimes, people commit vandalism because they have something to say about the state of things, which might seem unfair to them for some reason. Other times, there doesn’t have to be anything more complicated than someone feeling either bored or angry, with the result that they choose to express that emotion by ruining something that they can lay their hands upon. Of course, it should also be noted that there are cases when people vandalize something important for the perverse reason of wanting to see their deed remembered by other people. For example, there was a particularly infamous case back in ancient Greece when a man named Herostratus burned down the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World by the ancient Greeks. He did so for the purpose of making sure that his name would be remembered forever, which so angered the authorities at Ephesus that they didn’t just execute him but also passed a law to forbid the mention of his name. Something that failed because a historian recorded his name in his histories.

It is difficult to imagine that the person who vandalized the field did so for the sake of either sending a message or getting people to talk about them, not under these circumstances. However, until they are caught, there is no real point in too much speculation because so little is known about them at this point in time.
