Just so fans aren’t chomping at the bit to see one of their favorite shows back, keep in mind that this is a revival, not a return. But apart from that AJ Caulfield from Looper seems in good spirits, as many fans will, to learn that Adventure Time will be coming back for a limited run in 2020. Crazy as this cartoon seems it has managed to gain and keep a good number of fans throughout the years as it’s continued to dish out one episode after another that people have gone nuts over. From around 2010 to 2018 the show enjoyed a pretty good run and had enough exposure that it was prominent at just about every Comic Con and convention that it could be featured at. That’s the kind of following that is obviously made up of those that have come to love a show for what it has to offer and have connected with the various characters throughout the life of the program.
It does sound as though series is going to be featured on HBO Max as Mick Joest of CinemaBlend has alluded to and will consist of four specials that will be making their way to the viewers via the Cartoon Network Studios. The whole project is being dubbed as Adventure Time: Distant Lands, and as we’ve learned each presentation will have an hour-long run time and center upon various characters from the Land of Ooo. We’ll get to see Finn the Human and Jake the Dog once again as fans of the series should be excited to hear that the final episode will eventually see Jake and Finn reuniting for a reunion that’s bound to leave a lot of people satisfied. The cartoon is definitely one of the stranger ones to those that haven’t been initiated into its story, but to those that have managed to stick around for a while it’s been one of the most enchanting and mesmerizing for years, and seeing it come back even for a limited time is bound to be a treat to many of those that were there from the beginning or found their way into the fan base somewhere along the way.
It sounds as though the first episode is going to focus on BMO, the sentient computer that Niki Yang brought to life. According to what’s been dished out thus far BMO will be making a trip to check on an emergency in the far-flung corner of the galaxy. From there the second installment will focus on Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum. In this episode it sounds as though the pair will be making their way to Glass Kingdom to take a trip down memory lane in order to keep something disastrous from happening. Even Peppermint Butler will get his time in the sun it seems as the episode Wizard City will take the character back in time to the days when he was still a Wizard School student and hadn’t a shred of the talent he came to exhibit in the show. It does sound as though things will eventually round out with the final episode when Finn and Jake reunite in order to take on the biggest adventure of their lives at that point. In short, the epic saga is going to end once again, but this revival seems as though it might be a balm for those that might still be smarting from having to watch it go off the air in the first place. Considering that the show ran for an impressive 283 episodes people should at least be willing to concede that it had a healthy amount of time on screen and it did what it could, which is a lot, to gain a very healthy and dedicated fan base. This is a chance to say one last goodbye before the show is gone for good, or at least until someone decides to do a reboot or remake, as you know someone is likely thinking about already. Peter White of Deadline has more to say on this as well that people might want to read.
It’s hard to know whether or not fans of the show would really want something like this, but given how often it’s happened as of late it could be something that’s seen to be in the works eventually, but hopefully not too soon. Given that fans of this show have reacted as you might expect when it went off the air some of them might welcome the chance to see it again, but there’s always the thought of whether or not it will really be the same if it continues on, and on, and on. Eventually even the best of shows and movies tend to get stale and need to be let go to keep some of the magic alive. But we’ll see how the revival goes, as a lot of people are already excited about the prospect and will no doubt be psyched beyond belief when the show comes back for a few episodes.
