So far it seems that a lot of people have been enamored of the show Preacher and have been waiting patiently for each episode to come out. The occult feel of the show and the downright action-packed nature of it has appealed a lot of folks, and season 3 definitely paved the way for a season 4 as a lot of people were likely hoping for. There are a few details that Hannah-Shaw Williams from ScreenRant and a few others have been able to cobble together concerning the next season of the show, and hopefully people will be pleasantly surprised to hear them and will remain excited for the months to come when the show finally comes back.
For one the show is supposedly coming back this August if nothing untoward happens and there are no delays that suddenly crop up. That doesn’t seem like too long to wait and considering how many people have been waiting for the last season of Game of Thrones it’s actually not that bad. Speaking of last seasons though, this will also be the last season of Preacher as it’s been confirmed by those in charge and reported on by the likes of Clark Collis of Entertainment Weekly that the story seems to coming to a head and will end after this coming installment. While fans might be wondering how or why this could be it would seem that so far the story has just run its course and things are about to climax and then wind down to a (hopefully) pleasing finish.
A good number of the main characters will be coming back as well considering the way season three was left and because there are things to finish up that needed a few of the characters alive and kicking, well at least kicking in some regards, to make it work. Of course the main trio is coming back since there’s really no show without them at this point, but there are some figures that didn’t make it out of season three alive and as a result won’t be making the trip back in August. Unfortunately there’s no trailer as of yet to see just what’s coming, but the whole idea of Hitler taking over as ruler of Hell and the Saint coming back to earth, as told by Alec Bojalad from Den of Geek!, is enough to give Preacher fans a lot to look forward to.
In light of this show making a return for its final season one has to think that it’s been quite the tumultuous ride for Jesse and those closest to him since this is the kind of show in which you expect people to die but you aren’t always going to know how or just how severe the ramifications of each death will be. After all, how shows, or movies for that matter, have ever showed Satan getting killed and actually staying gone? Or for that matter how many productions have shown God being absent for any period of time? Yes you might cite the movie Dogma but at the same time keep in mind that He was gone from heaven voluntarily until he was trapped in a human form, which seems kind of odd for a supreme being since one would think that there are ways around such conditions. But anyway, the theories and story lines that Preacher has come up with throughout the show’s history have been nothing short of inspired and absolutely entertaining as well as macabre and entirely out there on a scale of about 1 to 1,000.
It’s kind of sad to see that this will be the last season but it does kind of make sense considering that the story has likely run its course and trying to keep it around any longer might water it down too much and make it into another show that’s outlived its time kind of like The Walking Dead or even a few of the Star Trek shows that some fans stick by but others claim are just mucking up the whole continuity. All in all Preacher will likely be ending on a high note and fans should at least be glad about that since instead of watching one of their favorite shows go trickling down the tube bit by as its reputation gets eroded by continuing episodes they’ll get to see it go out in a blaze of glory, metaphorically-speaking, as the last season wraps up. It’s hard to see it that way right now but at the very least it seems that this show will be allowed to keep its dignity in a way that many others have tossed away in the past.
In some ways this feels almost like a niche show, a program that enough people watched to keep it relevant, but not one that was so well known as several others. It’s definitely going to be missed by a few people but then again that’s what DVD’s and streaming are for.
