Everything We Know about Designated Survivor Season 3

In a way Designated Survivor is kind of like the King Ralph of drama. Think about it, the act of so many people that are in front of the lead character for the position of POTUS are killed all at once and then he has to step up and take the presidency until someone else can come along that’s qualified to take on the role. King Ralph had the same theme only with the royal family, and it worked on a comedic level since it wasn’t about to happen, ever, since there’s almost always someone that thinks they can handle the job better. But in this case it happened with the US presidency since we’re not a nation ruled by monarchs, no matter how much the left wants to claim otherwise in less than sane rants. But one thing you can say about this show is that no matter how many people like it, ABC didn’t think it was worth more than a couple seasons since it dumped it not long ago. Being salvaged by Netflix does mean that it’s still considered to be worth taking a look at since the streaming giant has gained a reputation for taking on projects that others don’t want at times.

But let’s see what might be in store for season 3:

So far it sounds like most of the cast will be returning and will be taking up their roles as before, though this time around it sounds as though Sutherland’s character is going to be taking on one of the most intimidating aspects of the presidency that many candidates have had to face, campaigning. As many people already know the campaign trail as of late has been littered with debris from the many different tactics that have been used to knock one’s opponent down a few pegs and make them look inept or like the devil they aren’t. Brian B. from TVWeb has detailed just how this might go in terms of turning a good man into a person that can barely recognize himself in the mirror once it’s all said and done. But then there’s the thought of whether or not the current president will even want to remain in office and take the time to walk the campaign trail. After all the character has already lost his wife and has been spending less and less time with his remaining family, which is something he’d hoped not to do in the beginning of his stint as the president. Of course this seems like what would happen if a decent person in DC is given the presidency because there’s no one else to take the mantle. Power taken is often a very corrupting thing, but power forced upon someone can be just as bad and worse than that, it can warp someone’s priorities to the point of either breaking them or creating someone that the world would be better off with.

At this point it seems as though Sutherland’s character will be in over his head and more likely to try and salvage what’s left of his life while trying to go with the flow as much as possible, but that could be upended the moment that season 3 begins. Mick Joest from Cinema Blend and several others have already stated that the show will be returning in June on Netflix and that the first two seasons are able to be seen on the streaming giant already, so there’s time to brush up on your knowledge of the show if that’s your desire. Whether or not Netflix can help revive interest in the show is hard to say, but so far their track record for taking on various projects has been pretty good. So many people are the type of Netflix and chill folks that they’ll gladly binge-watch several episodes at a time if not an entire season when they have the time and the opportunity. And considering that a person can take any device with them and stream Netflix almost anywhere they’re at it seems like a perfect way to just get away and spend some quality time with some quality programming.

So for the time being it sounds as though the show will go on without any major hiccups and things will continue to roll forward as they need to in order to keep the level of interest that’s already been developed. Whether Netflix can save it or not is hard to predict but it does seem as though it’s a good place for the show to land since it’s bound to get more exposure and a lot more interested viewers that either haven’t seen it yet and are interested or have seen it and want to keep watching. Perhaps if season 3 does well enough there might even be a season 4, we’ll just have to wait and see.
