To the shock of many, The Hollywood Reporter revealed in June that Jon Snow would get a new spinoff, with the show focusing on the character following the events that transpired after the series finale. Kit Harrington is confirmed to return to the role that made him a household name, though there’s no word on when the show will debut. To recall, Snow ultimately learned that his name was Aegon Targaryen, which could’ve seen the Targaryen claim the Iron Throne. However, Snow never betrayed Daenerys until the mad queen abruptly murdered an entire village to claim the throne for herself finally.

Snow killed Daenerys, but the price for his heroic efforts saw him banished from the other side of The Wall, where he joined the Free Folk to settle the northern lands. At the moment, exact plot details have yet to be confirmed. Given the recent success of the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon, which saw the series premiere shatter HBO viewership records with an excellent 9.986 million viewers, it’s clear that the brand is still hot. So, does that mean more spinoffs are in the works? There hasn’t been any buzz about other spinoffs than Jon Snow, though House of the Dragon has been renewed for season two. Anything could change, especially if the show wanted to dip their toes into one of their more popular characters like Daenerys Targaryen; however, it doesn’t sound like Emilia Clarke is interested in returning to the role.

In an interview with the BBC, Clarke was asked about returning to the world of Game of Thrones, and she didn’t hesitate to turn down a potential return, “No, I think I’m done.” Given that House of the Dragon focuses on the Targaryen family. However, 300 years before Game of Thrones, it may be a bit much to have another series centered around Daenerys’ upbringing. The character ultimately dies in the finale, though the show is no stranger to magic and bringing back characters from the dead, so it wouldn’t be entirely crazy if the showrunners brought back Daenerys alive. After all, Mr. Snow has been deemed a traitor at Castle Black and brutally murdered by his men in the season five finale. However, he was reincarnated in the following season, though it was no surprise to anyone watching the show. The final view of Daenerys saw the dragon carry off with her body, though it was never revealed what happened to it.

In terms of Clarke, she’s never looked down or trashed the Game of Thrones finale, though she stated in the past that she understood why the fans were angry:

“I get why people were pissed,” Clarke said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. ‘I totally get it. But being the actor, you can’t do justice to the character you’ve poured your blood, sweat, and tears into for a decade without getting on the same page. Do you know what I mean? So like, I’m not going to be there being like, “Fine, I’ll do the scene, whatever. So pissed.’

“You have to turn up. You have to turn up, and you have to… because why? Because you’re doing it for you, and you’re doing it for her, and you’re doing it for the show, and you’re doing it for the storytelling. So, I’m an actor. I get given a story, and I need to tell that story. Yes, I have a certain amount of autonomy over what flavor that might take, but the editor decides what it looks like. The writer decides what I’m saying, so you’ve just got to go in and try and give it as much truth and honesty and of yourself as you possibly can.”

Of course, anything could change with a surprise announcement of Daenerys getting her own spinoff. Still, Clarke has a busy schedule as the actress has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Secret Invasion film. Though her role has not been confirmed publicly, Daniel Richtman revealed earlier this month that Clarke is a Skrull named G’iah, hiding on Earth as Gloria Warner. There’s no word on exactly how big her role is within the feature, though G’iah is an essential name in the comics. Emilia Clarke may be done with the world of Game of Thrones for now, but the Mother of Dragons left behind a strong mark, despite many fans hating the final season of the Emmy-winning show.Kit Harrington
