DuckTales’ Will Finally Crossover with Darkwing Duck

Well holy cow. Something that was only ever teased in the past is actually going to  come to light finally. Now those of you who are old enough to remember the two hours or so of Disney cartoons in the 1990’s will obviously remember [easyazon_link identifier=”B014C20UU6″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Ducktales[/easyazon_link], but if you’re anything like me, hopefully not, then you’ll remember the cartoon known as Darkwiiiiing, Duck! Yes, no? Oh well. Darkwing Duck was another cartoon that Disney brought out later and decided to keep apart from Ducktales, meaning that there were at least two different, distinct universes in which animals could talk and move about like humans and humans were, well, non-existent.

Anyway, moving on.

In those days the crew of [easyazon_link identifier=”B014C20UU6″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Ducktales[/easyazon_link] and Darkwing didn’t ever coincide with one another but there were various similarities to their worlds that most kids couldn’t help but notice. Aside from the fact that they were all talking ducks, there were a few other things that seemed to indicate that their being from different worlds wasn’t as solid a theory as possible.

[easyazon_link identifier=”B00608LJV0″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Darkwing Duck[/easyazon_link] featured Launchpad and Gizmo Duck.

The crash-happy Launchpad and the heroic Gizmo Duck were elements taken from [easyazon_link identifier=”B014C20UU6″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]DuckTales[/easyazon_link]. So it was easy to assume that the two shows were already crossing over into each other’s territory when these two showed up. Otherwise, how did they get there? Was Disney trying to tell us that Launchpad and Gizmo Duck were dimensional travelers? Or did they have twin counterparts in a different dimension? That would have seemed like a lot to offer a bunch of kids even if they were completely accepting of talking ducks and mechanized suits that responded to command words.  Whether it was an attempt at saving money recycling characters or a major faux pas that the corporation thought no one would grasp it was still still kind of lazy to ship the two characters back and forth in an attempt to complete each show.

Launchpad spilled the beans and easily erased the “alternate universe” theory.

If you watch the first episode in which Gizmo Duck appears in Darkwing Duck, Launchpad introduces Gizmo Duck’s mild-mannered alter ego, Fenton Crackshell, to Drake Mallard, Darkwing’s alter ego. Stay with me here. Launchpad is introducing Fenton to Drake when he says that Fenton is his old pal from Duckberg. Oh yeah, that’s right. The eagle has landed, and the two separate universes have become one, hallelujah the fans know more than the creator on this one. Otherwise how could the two have possibly come from an alternate universe? It’s not as though anyone’s invented a machine that can jump through dimensions as of yet in either series. It might be feasible eventually, but it wasn’t even a thought in the 1990’s. So boo-ya, this will not be the first time that the two series have actually crossed each other’s paths, but it will definitely be made out as though it is.

That being said, this WILL be the first time that [easyazon_link identifier=”B072BC8KQT” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Darkwing Duck[/easyazon_link] and Scrooge will interact, and it will no doubt lead to a highly adventurous and entertaining episode that fans will surely enjoy. Ducktales, whoo-ooo!
