Was There Any Doubt Daniel Craig Would Return for Bond 25?

Did you really think Daniel Craig would miss out on a role that basically got him thrust into the mainstream? The guy has been playing the role since 2006 after all, there’s no reason why he can’t come back. The challenge will be to make sure that it’s seen how Bond is progressing through his life as he ages. That was and remains one hard point to challenge in any of the Bond films, the titular character never seems to age throughout his many missions. For all that Bond goes through you would think that his body would wear down, that he would develop a few more wrinkles, and that the gray hair would start to come in.

But that’s if all the Bond years are continual.

If they were going to run a timeline that connected every Bond movie ever made then yes, James Bond should have at least one foot in the grave by if not both feet firmly planted as he waits for the final tick of the clock. But that being said, the Bond films are not all on the same timeline.

There is some continuity and the very real fact that Craig’s bond is a bit of a reboot and a prequel all in one. The continuity in the Bond films comes in the form of Tracy Bond, the woman that George Lazenby married in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. His wife is subsequently killed later on and after that Bond goes on a quest to get revenge throughout several more films. In the Roger Moore version though it seems that he might have married someone else, as the name on the headstone is Teresa Bond, not Tracy. So there isn’t a lot of continuity save for the fact that Bond was apparently married at one point and did lose his wife.

Maybe we’re building to that.

That  could be why Daniel Craig can’t really leave the Bond set just yet, there’s still an unfinished part of the story to go through. Bond has obviously had his share of women and more, but considering that Craig’s version is a prequel/reboot there’s a good chance that we could see him getting married at some point and trying to settle down. That would keep with the vague story line of the movies, though little else will I’m sure. For all we know however the Bond films could be in line for a major reboot as this seems to be the trend in Hollywood right now.

A lot of fans might see this as an insult to Bond, but in truth it would be an upgrade for a new generation so that they could enjoy the legend of James Bond while at the same time finding entertainment in a film that caters more to their style. The films of the past several decades are beginning to wear thin with many audience members as special effects and CGI start to pave the way. The more groundbreaking the effects, the more people want to watch. The sad part is that the old movies just can’t compete on the same level that often.

Daniel Craig is, at this moment, the James Bond of the current generation, and will remain so it seems until someone else can step up to the plate.
