Dave Chappelle is joining some other major comedians tonight by going back to his roots in stand up. Comedians like Chris Rock, Jon Stewart, Donnell Rawlings and Jerry Seinfeld have returned to the pure comedy of performing stand-up and Chappelle is doing the same. It’s what got him his amazing career in the first place and it’s what’s putting him back in the spotlight today. Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever been as excited about a stand up show as I am for these two specials.
In the history of comedy shows I was psyched to see I think Chris Rock’s Never Scared and Jerry Seinfeld’s one hour HBO special are the two I was most fond of. Though if I had to pick a comedian whose stand up was best in person I would go with Louis C.K. I first saw him when I was only 15 back in the 90s at Caroline’s in NYC. Since then I’ve seen him another 4 times and he just owns it every single time.
Anyway, here’s wishing Dave Chappelle obscene amounts of success again after his Netflix specials break the internet. In honor of Chappelle returning to TV, I wanted to do a quick ranking of my fave favorite Dave Chappelle movie roles. Ready? Here we go:
5. Robin Hood: Men in Tights – Achoo
4. You’ve got Mail – Kevin Jackson
3. Undercover Brother – Conspiracy Brother
2. Con Air – Pinball
1. Half Baked – Thurgood Jenkins
