Following the show’s ninth season finale, which debuted Sunday, Dec. 3, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning comedy series Curb Your Enthusiasm, starring Larry David, will return to HBO for its tenth season, it was announced today by Casey Bloys, president of HBO programming. Production will begin next spring, with additional details to be announced as they are confirmed.
“We are thrilled that Larry will be back with his uniquely acerbic wit and comedic sensibility,” said Bloys. David also said in a statement, “As I’ve said many times, when one has the opportunity to annoy someone, one should do so.”
Curb Your Enthusiasm has just received two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series (David) and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Debuting on HBO in 2001 and presenting 90 episodes to date, Curb Your Enthusiasm stars “Seinfeld” co-creator David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalized life.
Season nine brought back series veterans Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Cheryl Hines, Richard Lewis, Bob Einstein, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen. The series was created by David and executive produced by David, Garlin, and Jeff Schaffer. Notable guest stars during the season are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elizabeth Banks, Bryan Cranston, America Ferrera, Judy Sheindlin, Elizabeth Perkins, Lauren Graham, Jimmy Kimmel, and many more.
The ninth season received mostly positive reviews from the critics, with a score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics consensus stated, “Curb Your Enthusiasm returns after a long layoff with a batch of episodes that continue to mine fresh – if not particularly groundbreaking – misanthropic laughs.” The tenth season renewal was surprising and quick given the five years gap between the eighth and ninth season. David previously stated in an interview that a tenth season is really possible since he had fun doing the ninth.
