The Construction Of The World’s Largest Optical Telescope

The construction of the world’s largest telescope in the world is something amazing to watch. The Giant Magellan Telescope took about 7 years to make and was set up in the Chilean Andes. There’s dry weather, clear skies, and no competing lights to interfere with the images that are seen in the night sky. The heart of the telescope is this giant mirror that’s shown in the clip, as it gathers the light that’s seen in the sky and then relays it to the rest of the construct so that those looking into the heavens can deduce just what’s going on beyond our world.

For a long time now mankind has been wondering just where we came from, where we might be going, and if we’re all alone in this universe. Many would say absolutely not, especially since devices such as this telescope can give us clue that there is a much wider universe out there than what we can see with the naked eye. The lights that we’re seeing now might have emanated from dead and dying stars and possibly from collapsing galaxies, but that alone states that we’re not entirely alone. The fact remains that something or someone must be out there simply because without it that would mean that humanity is alone in the universe, and that seems like a very sad and lonely proposition.

But the telescope also gives some hope that there might be life elsewhere as the ability to see the possibility that there is life elsewhere is something that lends hope to the idea that human beings will be able to take note eventually and begin to learn more than we ever have in the past century and more. The idea that is touted in science fiction novels and movies is that humanity is still a young species, unsure and unable to really see just what is out there or comprehend how to get there. If there are extraterrestrials in the universe it would seem that they are not unlike the adults in ours, largely stepping past those that are not yet developed and are therefore not ready for the wider, more open truths that have yet to be discovered, but perhaps checking on us from time to time just to see how we’re doing. That could explain the various sightings that people have had since the beginning of time, right? Even if it doesn’t it does manage to at least explain in some part the drawings, the tales, and the various representations that have been given to aliens throughout the years. The dreams and the imaginative depictions have to come from somewhere.

Maybe one day the Magellan Telescope will show researchers something that’s a little more lively, or will find evidence that we’re not alone in the universe. Until then it’s still the biggest telescope in the world and the hope that it might find something is still alive. If something bigger is needed then it might be another decade or more before it’s ready to start looking.
